    Hello¡
Im working on a Star Trek Nemesis Edit, and i would like to know if there is decent quality footage of the deleted scenes.

I already did an amazing edit, adding myself VFX but there are some scenes like the one in Data's quarters that i only could find It very pixelated ir with "Paramount Pictures property" wrotte over screen.

If i can complete this i would be willing to share It.

Do you have a copy of the bluray and have a player and software to copy the video files? I think that would be your best bet.

Yeah. I made a backup of the BR, and there are the best versions of that scenes i could find so far but that one in Data's quarters has that annoying Paramount Pictures property message all during the scene. In YouTube there is one video where that scene is free of that , idk where the autor found It without It but still It has a very low quality.

My edit is all in BR Quality , loseless in comparison with the BR so when that scenes show up is ofc very noticeable even with the upscaling i did but that one seems very difficult to fix from that horrible source. I wonder if there is some better avaliable source for that scenes.

If I recall correctly, the 2-disc Special Edition DVD has deleted scenes anamorphic widescreen, but bizarrely the BR has them window boxed with black borders all around. So somebody must've screwed up and included the extras 4:3 letterbox centred in the widescreen frame.

Or knowing how ingenious fans are, they did that on purpose to make it harder to put the cut footage back.

Could you mask out the portion of the screen where the logo is and just use that from the lower quality version? I know it's not ideal, but it will probably be better than nothing.

The quality of that scene in the BR extras is even worse than in the SE-2disc, besides the logo... I think the best way would be working with the scene from the SE and try to do some fix so it can be at least watchable, as i could do with Chateau Picard and the alternate violation scene.

What about using an upscaling tool on the DVD version? If you don't already own it, you can get a trial of Topaz AI Gigapixel and use that to upscale the SD clips to HD at reasonable quality.

The low, low quality versions of the deleted scenes on the DVD/Blu-ray is all that has ever surfaced. Unfortunately.

Theorically that scenes exist in decent quality original material, as they were shot with the same means that the actual movie. But there is no way to get that original material, and i dont expect anything related for the 20th Anniversary, even when there was some talk about It in the past , the same Patrick Stewart speculated about a possible Actor's Cut.

Naturally. By "surfaced" I meant released to the public.

Don't expect much though. There's no AI upscaling (yet) that can take SD footage from a dirty old workprint (duped to VHS?) and bring it up to the level of a finsihed movie on Blu-ray.

Yeah , is clear that you cant create something from nothing, but the purpose of this edit is not to match the quality of a possible official special edition cut that seems very difficult to happen, but to offer a decent quality footage of that scenes combined with the Blu Ray scenes. Let's see how good are the results. I anc assure that Chateau Picard scene looks reasonable well with the added VFX. Much better than in that youtoube video that however served as my first inspiration for this edit. If someone doesnt know about It , im referring to this video:

Not just poor quality, but wrong aspect ratio too. :)

Yeah. I corrected that issue in my edit. I already tried Gigapixel and has been a failure. Sources for deleted scenes are so bad that there is no significant difference. I think maybe in Chateau Picard scene It could make some difference but i would have to redo all the VFX and contrast/brightness/colour corrections for a very small quality improvement.
I think i will keep this edit as It , and if someday better sources of the deleted scenes are released then i will try again.
I will put soon some imagen comparison between Chateau Picard scene from BR extras and from my edit.

Hello. As i already tell you here, I´m working on a fan edit of Star Trek: Nemesis. Is well known that the deleted scenes were cut mostly to give the film a more commericial appeal and more action, but they could have made that movie much better. My edit cuts most of the redundant and worst scenes while trying to recover the missing scenes, at least the best ones that could fit properly in the movie.

The problem is that the quality of the avaliable sources for the deleted scenes is really bad. I have seem in forums like Original Trilogy that there is people who have done an excellent work in the deleted scenes of Star Wars movies and i would like to know if do you think there is some way of doing something aceptable with the Star Trek Nemesis ones.

I would really like to restore that scenes, but i don´t know if it´s possible. That one has strange interlacing and it also is ocuppying just a centered part of the screen, so even in 480p (source resolution) it is not in full screen.

Is it possible to improve the lower quality footage by performing a deepfake to replace the actors with higher resolution versions of themselves from other parts of Star Trek: Nemesis and from previous movies?

I tend to think that sharper faces pasted onto still-VHS-quality footage would look worse rather than better.

Each deleted scene has a different quality, and different kinds of problems. For example, that Chateau Picard scene has a decent quality in comparison with the others, but suffers from interlacing, bad green screen-chroma resolution and overexposed bright tones.
This is the complete list of available deleted scenes:

1- Wesley scene during the wedding. 0:54
    2- Chateau Picard 4:03
    3- Ten Forward scene with B-4. 1:45
    4- Shinzon plans 3:24
    5- Federation Protocols 1:00
6- Half a minute of conversation during the Shinzon presentation scene in the Scimitar
7- Troi and Picard after meeting Shinzon 1:06
8- Crusher and Picard discussing young Picard extended dialogue at the end of the scene. 0:31
    9- Turbolift violation 1:15
10- Sickbay preparing for battle. 0:56
11- Geordi and Worf in Data´s quarters. 1:43
12- Crusher joins Starfleet Medical. 0:36
13- New first officer / Alternate Ending 3:14

My current fan edit only includes number 2 and 9. If i had all of these in good quality i would also include nº11, that for me is key because
it shows Data wasn´t using his emotional chip when he sacrificed himself for the others
    , nº6, nº12 and maybe nº1 and 4.
