Star Trek Nemesis Edit

I am making some progress improving quality in Chateau Picard scene. This will take months probably, any help is welcome. Ofc the best would be if Rick Berman or someone else who has that deleted scenes appears here in this forum and give us all the original camera material.

I managed to eliminate some of the problems of the Deleted Scenes. In Chateau Picard there is no longer interlacing or Aspect Ratio issues. Problem is the bad edge enhancement and the low resolution of the green screens that makes very difficult to work with Chroma Key. I tried in Sony Vegas and also in Adobe After Effects but I lack of enough knowledge of green screen treatment. If I could get a nice green screen effect and reducinh the edge/sharpness problems, I would be more near a good restoration of that scene. If someone here knows how to work on green screen or knows someone ho does it please tell me.

(IMO) You would have to manually mask it. The footage is way too degraded to get a nice clean chromakey without a lot of extra manual effort.

Does someone own the Special edition of Star Trek Nemesis? I would like to know if the deleted scenes are in bigger quality that in the Blu ray extras. I'm working on a restoration of that scenes and I need the best available source for them.

Haven't we been through this already?

We discussed this matter before but I'm not sure if the deleted scenes in the SE are bigger quality or it's just that they're not letterboxed in 4:3 with black bars all around as in the Blu ray extras. I mean, the question is if there is a real difference of quality (even if it seems small) between that two sources.

Wow, watched the Chateau scene and SO glad they cut that nice character moment and gave us 20 minutes of dune buggy chase.
I can tell you that Château Picard scene is back in this edit as best as possible and that car chase is eliminated.

They are the same. The deleted scenes (and accompanying interviews) were assembled for the DVD and presented windowboxed (non-anamorphic). The same feature was ported directly to the Blu-ray.

Okey, so I'll continue with the Blu ray source material.

One important thing rearding the deleted scenes is the soundtrack. Chateau Picard scene has been already edited in some amateur fan videos. One of them was posted in YouTube and features "An Honor", a track from the original score that appears in the Riker´s farewell scene. Since the begining i always tought that is a good choice, as both scenes feature the same thematic about the passing of time and the main characters saying goodbye to each other as they´re going to new adventures.

Now i´m trying to bring life to the other scenes with music and i would like to hear some suggestions. Which music do you thin could fit the following deleted scenes:
  • Geordi and Worf in Data´s quarters. 1:43
  • Crusher joins Starfleet Medical. 0:36
  • Federation Protocols 1:00
  • Turbolift violation 1:15
  • Wesley scene during the wedding. 0:54
  • Chateau Picard 4:03 (Before the last part)

I have made a lot of progress towards creating the "Actor´s Cut" of Star Trek: Némesis. But the costs are important, i have already spent more than 600$ and hundreds of hours in this project and i won´t be able to pay the costs of the following needed steps:
-Removal of the credit letters in 3 of the improved deleted scenes: This needs to be made frame by frame, using painting and masking methods to cover the credits and replacing them with extended textures from surrounding parts in each frame, as the camera is moving, especially in two of that scenes.
-Improvement on the stereo track of the used deleted scenes: The audio track that we find in the deleted scenes is a mediocre stereo track that needs to be fixed by makingthe voices smoother and more clear, plus removing the weird background sound.
-Music for the deleted scenes: Ofc, the deleted scenes need their own music. There´s a need to chose the proper music for each scene.

I have worked with an VFX and Video Fixing specialist that helped me to fix the video in most of the deleted scenes. I will put a "before and after" video soon so you can check it.

If you can separate the audio track into a standalone .wav file I may be able to use noise reduction software to clean it up. It has to be a separate track because working on a combined track is beyond my skills, but I would be happy to do it for free. If you're interested drop me a note via PM.

Why not just crop them off? I know cropping isn't always the best answer, but for deleted scenes in already such rough quality and you'll be looking at minutes of effort vs dozens of hours. (And even then I'd be amazed if they could be painted out cleanly and consistently across the whole run of the scene/s.)

There is one video on youtube where someone made that. Most of the scenes are cropped and zoomed in to fit the screen but that decreases the quality, and ofc the scenes don´t look natural wit that zooms and the image loss. I'm currently exploring ways to do it preserving the full image. Someone in Reddit told me that he could help. I was also told by the same specialist that helped me with the video fixing that doing a perfect or near-perfect covering of the letters in ony one small scene could cost up to 500$

FWIW, as a matter of personal preference, while I wish most of the deleted scenes had been left in the film, one thing I'm really glad they took out was the Wesley scene. Not because I dislike the character or wasn't happy to see him, but because they had him back in Starfleet. I felt that undermined the way his journey ended in, er... "Journey's End". I know he was glimpsed in uniform in the final cut but I like the way the novels rationalised that.

I'd love it if we could eventually get to a point where we can have a full "Actors' Cut" of NEM, perhaps with a young Patrick Stewart deepfaked onto Tom Hardy for good measure. :nyah:

Star Trek: Nemesis - As Never Seen Before. UPDATE

I made this post two weeks ago presenting this fan edit of Star Trek: Nemesis. https://www.reddit.com/r/startrek/c.../?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I have made some progress and I would like to show you a comparison video of the work done to improve one of the deleted scenes. I think this is one of the main deleted scenes in the movie, and also the most complex to fix, but this are some of the results so far:

If you are wondering why the "before" parts in the video look even worse than the source, this is happening because the source video has been simply upscaled to 1080p to show how it would look if you just put the scene in the middle of the Blu Ray movie.

This is just one of the scenes, and might not be the final version. I will be uploading new comparison videos of the other deleted scenes to that same youtube channel.

Any updates on this? I've always wanted to see a complete version of Nemesis with the deleted scenes restored! :)
Hello!
I'm currently working on the deleted scenes trying to achieve the best results. It may take more time but I think is worth the wait. I will be uploading new videos to YouTube soon, and giving you all the news here.
