Cheaper than saying it once in episode 1, and then only mentioning it again in the finale when he does actually die? Having it be a background issue brought up over the next two or three seasons would have been better than that. It's ok to like a show and be able to say "but this would have been better".

You often just walk up to someone you've barely said two words to and kiss them? It was just so badly handled. Awkward, out of the blue and then barely mentioned again. The way these two shows do relationships is terrible and childish.

If you're going to invent this ludicrous technobabble reason for Data to be alive, then you might as well just take one more step forward and invent some technobabble reason for Picard to speak to him. You didn't need to kill him then bring him back to life as an android.

I like the show and I don't think that would be better. I'm OK with what we got.
I've seen it done. Every single relationship in these shows I've seen reminds me of something from real life. So, mileage will vary.

Bewitched didn't even bother KILLING Darrin (they just swapped out Dick York for Dick Sargent). They also went through two Gladys Kravitzes.

There were also two Beckys on Roseanne (the actresses who played them are now appearing alongside each other on The Conners, albeit as different characters).

And then there's Doctor Who. They've been through thirteen Doctors now.

You know they missed an opportunity to put Picard in a younger Golem body, played by James McAvoy, so he can continue his career path in playing a younger Patrick Stewart.

Data was not alive. He was just software existing outside of a body. That's pretty clearly meant to represent a spirit outside of a body. That's what they were going for.

Data did not feel complete. It felt very much like a spirit stuck in limbo, or trapped on this mortal plane waiting to move on. Unfinished business and all that jazz.

I get that. Replace "Data to be alive" with "Data's spirit to be alive" and the point still stands.

Should have put him in a baby body and then flash forward 5 years at a time showing the crew raising him back to Picard's age. Then Riker & Geordi can raise the Picard baby

Am I the only one who is perfectly happy with Sir Patrick playing Picard?!

That's the problem for me, it took me out of the moment, the ultimate roll the eyes moment like in STID when Kirk dies, and Spock is sooooo anguished on the death of someone he barely tolerated over 2 movies and in universe 1 year prior (maybe he had a breakdown or secret love crush on frat boy slim Kirk).
At least with Prime Spock they waited for another movie to being him back (due to the actor changing his mind) and with Culbert they waited for another series to being him back (fan backlash at kill the gay trope?), the quick death and resurrection was common in TOS for Scotty and McCoy, did they need to go there again? Picard in a medically induced coma due to his illness would be just as effective and he can still talk to Data and say goodbye to his new best friend.
It is the late 24th century, there was no reason for no cure of his Irumodic Syndrome, if humans can make babies with aliens, anything is possible

Yes, because it fits the character.

We were reminded very early on in the season that Picards Irumodic Syndrome was in the final stages which meant he was going to die sooner rather than later, as soon as we were shown Altans unfinished golem and told about his work on mind transfer the writing was on the wall for Picard, it was blatantly obvious as I and many others commented on at the time.

Its not like it came as a shock or anything.

While I do think it was all over and done with a bit quick there could be S2 plot reasons for that, no doubt next season will have Picard struggling with his own existence, is he really still Picard or just a copy of a dead man.

It could be the source of some good story lines like the next time he sees Troi or the look on Clancy's face when she finds out he has decades left after all, maybe even some comedy if Picards new body ends up being a bit more than just standard.

How does a less than 24 hour death fit the character?

Its not about the death or how long they are dead but the choices made that lead to death.
