Let´s talk about the new Romulan ships?

Is there any way to know if those Romulan ships are: what is left of the Romulan military, Tal Shiar ships, or reserve ships to fight at the Synth homeworld?

I do think that some TNG/DS9 designs still have value at the very end of the 24th Century like the Vor'cha, D'Deridex and Nebula classes and with upgrades they could still be in use, whether they would be able to match the newer designs or ever be shown on screen again is another matter of course.

I could see the various Empires and Starfleet keeping them in service for as long as it is efficient to do so but I cant see them building any more.

I would expect them to have been superseded by more advanced designs by now, especially after the Dominion War.

Realistically, a lot of ships that were new at the time of TNG could still be in use. And the various Romulan factions might especially using older ships, both their own and salvaged/donated/acquired from others.

Now if the show’s going to go that way...I dunno. Tell you what though, I personally don’t want to see anything pre-Ambassador Era — Federation-wise, anyway.

I really don’t see them recreating old designs unless there’s a specific reason for them to do so (i.e. the Enterprise-D for the dream sequence.) It’s been 20 years in-universe since Nemesis ended, and I think the days of the D’Deridex, K’t’inga, Klingon BoP, Vor’cha, Excelsior, Miranda, Oberth, Nebula, Ambassador, etc. are long over.

I agree, there seems to have been a move to smaller ships anyway, in First Contact there were lots of smaller vessels buzzing about. And I suppose it makes some sense in that you can have 8 smaller ships for the price of one larger one.

Although it would be pretty epic to see the final battle go in favour of the Zhat Vash to the point at which they even manage to stop the synth species from arriving through whatever we glimpsed in the trailer. Zhat Vash With about 40 of their small ships left, La Sirena Dead in space, all "Orchids" destroyed. Zhat Vash preparing to bombard the planet wiping out the synths for good.

I'm presuming this synth planet is sat somewhere in Federation space.

Would be pretty nice to see the Federation turn up at the last moment & turn the tide, 15-20 smaller Defiant sized ships dropping out of warp followed seconds later by 2 - 3 behemoths such as the Enterprise laying waste to the Zhat Vash ships. Hell, maybe even throw in a few Romulan ships supporting the Federation, after all, the Zhat Vash attacking Mars indirectly resulted in the deaths of probably billions of Romulans, when the truth comes out they'd probably be considered a radical terrorist organisation.

Was there a specific reason for recreating the TOS Bird-of-Prey?

Well, yes. It was for fanservice. They needed a pirate ship, and since they were in the former Neutral Zone, they decided to have a little fun with it. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but too much of it can be annoying. Say, if they decided to recreate an Excelsior class ship just for a generic fleet ship, I’d be annoyed because I would rather they spent the time designing something new, not something I’ve seen a million times already.

The ships you pointed are indeed to much old. But the Valdore not. She can still fly in the Picard era for sure.
Mesh lost and/or outdated format are good tech explanations, but don´t serves as an excuse for do not recreate/update her.

I think the CBS just preferred do not put her in the show and instead, create new ships. Well, good or bad, it was a choice. Let´s wait the design of the new starfleet ships don´t make us upset...

I'm not a fan of these 1960s jet fighters the Roms seems to be flying in this series. I want space SHIPS, not silly buzzy fighters.

Thank you. I’ve been trying to figure out just which jet those ships looked like, and I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re supposed to resemble F4 Phantoms.

The ugliest jet ever conceived...

Romulans like birds. Not seeing the problem.

And they aren't alone there. Klingons put wings onto their ships, too. Orions like to combine wings and green. The trick is in doing something that looks birdlike and Romulan. And Oh's helmeted command ship is a nice try, while the rest of the fleet is somewhat generic and not particularly Romulan yet.

...Yes, Coppelius is either in UFP space or then right next to it in Romulan space - just a tad over 25 lightyears from the Artifact site. And I bet it's not in Romulan space, or it would have been found long ago. But it being in UFP space close to the former Romulan border is also a bit problematic. Then again, Narek and "Rizzo" did not seem to have any trouble connecting Soji's vision of the two moons and the storms with a specific place; perhaps the planet was well known to all sides, but not a remarkable place by any standard, much like Omicron Theta where that other Soong was able to work in privacy.

The bird motif has been done better before?

There are no actual Romulans, and this is just a TV show, so if they’re going to create something for our entertainment, it’s not on us if we’re not entertained, if we’ve given them an honest shot.

Trek is bird-heavy. The original BoP lead to the Klingon BoP, lead to a huge bird motif in Klingon ships too, and Romulan ships being way more bird like than the original BoP, and random races of the week get bird ships, and Cardassians incorporate birds into their sigils, and the Orions suddenly are sporting Vulcanoid blood-green bird ships, and the Valdore is even more prosaically bird-like than the D’Deridex, and no all Romulan ships are swappable bird ships....

Like....okay.

I think it has a lot of potential to be highly entertaining. I think the shape is bird like but also evokes a very large flock to intimidate an enemy. Its more than just a large fleet but communicates a larger unit.

I like the Romulan BOP and the Klingon BOP. The TNG takes on Romulan ships leave me cold The PIC are an improvement and harken back to the original BOP. YMMV
That’s interesting to me. Could you elaborate more on your opinions? Do you mean the warbird? I think some of the later designs were kind of meh — the scout ship looked too boxy to me, with an airplane beak attached).

But the way the warbird combined both the bird motif with an alien hull configuration, that really dazzled a lot of people.

Not really, no.

We do know that the Tal Shiar has, in the past, had its own fleet (DS9's "The Die Is Cast") so they could have one here as well. Or these ships could also be the actual Romulan Free State fleet.

I'm leaning towards Tal Shiar, actually. The ships don't look large enough to be rank-and-file fleet.

*Nods*

Particularly as more up to date meshes do exist (for a graphics system, if not necessarily the one used for PIC CGI as three different variants [Mogai, Valdore and Morrigu] exist for Star Trek Online).
