Well Kate knows that she knows now, and it would have been nice if she spoke up right then but that conversation had to get delayed for dramatic effect I guess. I am glad however that last conversation in the episode wasn't overly angsty and angry of the "I was betrayed!" variety and was Mary basically telling her "when you're ready." She is indeed the bestest sister.

Anyways, another really good one. Big steps for Sophie, it was nice seeing her briefly happy, and realizing she wants to be so not only occasionally and in secret.

Plenty goings on on the villain front, loved Alice going to therapy, Duela was a nice and creepy villain of the week, Cartwright is stepping up as the irredeemably evil baddie of the season, and the shadowy Crow conspiracy regarding Lucius Fox's death is ramping up as well.

The one thing I didn't buy was the bat-computer being stumped by a name change, but we got another excuse to have Batwoman visit Mary out of it so I'm totally fine with that. :D

Season 1 - Episode 15 - "Off With Her Head"

Kate/BW: Its about time the series has someone aim a gun at her face--that eternally weak spot of so many superheroes should be a topic this show explores. If she was a couple of seconds off, she would have met her maker.

The other issue with this series is Kate letting villains go; she's let Alice run off several times, and now she's trying to make a deal with Cartwright. Even if she was conning him, still, its one of her failings as a character...and now, she's a murderer.

Now that she's a killer--and tossing back the booze, this should be the beginning of a new, disastrous turn for her.

Luke: As busy as he usually is, his sideline with the Most Annoying Character was just giving him something to do--a waste of this character. All of that, just so Mary can pull a childish "I've got a secret" number on Luke, and pry where she's not wanted (trying to find the entrance to the cave). Ridiculous.

Alice / Mouse: Yeah, yeah, she was traumatized, but as noted about earlier episodes, it is no excuse for being a mass murderer. Her hallucinations were more than deserved. Now, she's tunring the "murderer" screws on Kate. Yeah, less than repentant after being saved.

Cartwright: Just when you thought he was sinister, his mother topped his act. Nothing short of a freak. ...but the writers borrowed a bit too much from the movie version of Mommie Deasrest, Psycho, and the "mystery refrigerator" scene was reminiscent of the cannibal film, The Folks at Red Wolf Inn. His attempted suicide was a bit predictable--like Alice, he will do anything to "win," but it makes no sense that he would do it to keep Alice in hiding, since he was the one trying to kill her.

Jacob: Although he had a point about the GCPD not being the first group he would trust to believe this Cartwright/skin story, by aiding Kate, he joins her as an accessory to kidnapping, so for a recently free man, he should have thought twice about his actions. Emotionally all over he place--between Alice and the corruption at the Crows,

NOTES: I'm enjoying the bleak outlook (and art direction) of this series. It is no happy, citywalk-esque world like some other CW-DC series.

Last week, Fear Toxin name dropped, and now Scarecrow. Nice, passing reference without screaming it to the audience.

Next week, Kate helps Alice break Mouse out of Arkham. That cannot go anywhere good.

Saw the last 2 minutes of it. So she’s working with Alice now? Must have missed a lot.

Not really working. More like emotional / legal blackmail.

The Kanes - whatever's left of them - are hanging together now. How literally is yet to be discovered.

And yeah, the "Queen of Hearts" topped Alice and "Caterpillar" Cartwright, but Mouse is still out there in the wild. And so are Mary and Luke.

Apparently Kate (or her graphic designer) is a Star Trek fan: The font for her event poster was a Trek-specific variant of Microgramma Bold, for ship markings (some of the letters are different, but the giveaway was the included pinstripe outlines).

    Also, yikes.

    I really could’ve done without Kate’s Mom’s head in a refrigerator.

I was surprised they went there given the trope and all.

Adobe sells that font as "Millenium". I bought a knock-off version under the brand of "Red Alert". There are other variants...

The bigger reveal is - if I understand the story as shown correctly - that Mrs. Kane was targeted in the first place.

I don't see how that could be. Their car was run off the road by the Joker during a chase with Batman. I think it's more just that Cartwright found both Beth and her mother after the wreck and killed her mother to serve his own mother's demands.

Piling it on: in order to explain why Alice turned out so rubber-room ready, the writers likely felt she needed more than a life of kidnapping/conditioning, and there would be no better way to achieve that than Alice having the "ground zero" of her childhood (the crash) become a greater nightmare with the beheading of her mother.

At first I thought he dragged her out after she died based on the wording. I didn't realize they meant he killed her.

I know Kate has pretty much broken Batman's cardinal rule but jeez after what the cartwrights have put her family through I really can't blame her.

Later scenes seemed to imply he did kill her.

My impression was that he found her dead body and preserved the head. Waste not, want not!

Okay, I looked it up on the Wiki, and apparently her head was severed in the crash and Cartwright found it (after Beth was traumatized by seeing it). Although if all he did was to desecrate her remains, I'm surprised that made Kate furious enough to kill him, even by accident.

(Also, the writer of the latest update on the article about Gabi Kane mistakenly referred to the girls' "bar mitzvah" instead of their bat mitzvah, which is not only ignorant of Judaism but misses out on a perfectly good pun. But I fixed it.)

^I rewound and paused on the card at the beginning of the flashback because my eye just caught the word "bat" and it took me a moment to realize it was saying "bat mitzvah" and not something superhero-related.

Yeah, I didn't catch on until Gabi was talking to the girls about how they're women now, and I remembered that they're Jewish.
