Pretty much sums up this thread. People don't want Trek as it was. They want it as they imagined it was.

And it's not as if Seven has never behaved aggressively even as a more subdued and emotionally-controlled former drone. In "Infinite Regress(VOY)" she displays buried personalities of assimilated individuals from across the galaxy and even behaves kind of violently. It's been 21 years since she got home to the Alpha Quadrant with Voyager. She's a much more uninhibited individual who isn't afraid to show what she's feeling at a given moment.

Double-wielding phaser rifles and shooting up the thugs and criminals who murdered somebody she considered her child is far from the most shocking thing she could do.

Virtually every TNG character with the exception of Riker had some form of death or loss in their past which is mentioned or seen at least once, if not more.

Picard- Robert and Rene (Generations), Jack Crusher (close personal friend)

Riker- The lucky one, lost no one (IIRC)
Edit: As @Noname Given corrected, his mother died when he was young

Data- Soong, Lal and Tasha Yar

Beverly Crusher- Jack Crusher

Geordi- His mother

Worf- K'Ehleyr

Troi- her father, Kestra, Andrew (The Child)..

They loved making her into an action hero - one of my favourite Voyager moment is in The Chute where she slides into a prison packing a rifle half her size.

She even had action hero one-liners - who could forget "Time to take out the garbage" as she fires at a Malon ship?

Star Trek Picard is a very bad show done by people who doesnt know anything about Star Trek, putting Patrick as producer to hide the real embarrasement this is. I also consider the recent wave of movies to be devoid of the Roddenberry spirit, and little more than mundane conflict drama acted out by people in appropriated Starfleet uniforms. I also completely reject the "Kelvin Timeline" as Fake Trek. There was no need to destroy Vulcan, etc. That was done merely for cheap shock value. But I digress. It seems that we will never see True Trek again from the powers that be, though it will still be possible in Fan Fiction, which I encourage. True Trek fans can still keep the spirit alive through their own story writing, regardless of what the franchise controlling powers, interested primarily in profit and speaking to the lowest common denominator, dictate for the rest of us.

Twas ever so. I remember complaining as far back as 2009 that people kept comparing the reboot movie not to STAR TREK as it actually existed before but to some platonic ideal of STAR TREK that could only be seen through rose-colored visors.
