I'm pretty sure I remember being one of the first to help mimeograph and hand them out back in '72 at that little Trek-get-together in NYC.

People don't want Trek as it was. They want it as they imagined it was.
Reminds my of a story John Byrne tells about his time on Wonder Woman. A fan was constantly castigating him about violating canon. At times vehemently. The problem was the canon being "violated" was in his head.They pitch a fit when the show doesn't match their Head Canon.![]()

It was easy to recognize that if you read the books where lots of unsavory things occurred.Even when I was a teenager I didn't buy that the Star Trek universe was an antiseptic and utopian reality free of religion and war.
