I wish they'd ditch Narek, Jurati, Raffi (ok, I'm willing to wait for her a bit longer... so not Raffi yet), moustache twirling Rizzo, and Elnor (whom I initially found endearing, but is just getting on my nerves now.. got it, good ninja samurai. Now shut up and go play somewhere else). See, now we got room for other characters, new or old!

Btw., how did Seven's Fenris ranger contact card end up for Elnor to find on the cube?! Wtf?

Probably fell off Picard when he almost took a dive off the bridge.

Lucky Elnor.

I wonder if something happened to the Ba'ku planet. I previously questioned why Picard's diagnosis was necessarily a death sentence if he could just go to Ba'ku and cure himself (though, as I understand it, he'd have to remain on the planet or else he'd just get sick again). Now it also seems as though it wasn't an option for Will and Deanna's son either.

It was specified in Insurrection that the metaphasic radiation of the Ba'ku planetary rings would take 10 years of normal exposure to heal the Son'a of whatever was wrong with them. Also the effects stopped working for Enterprise crew once they left. I'd imagine that time may have been issue for the Rikers and it probably wasn't feasible to have their Son live on Ba'ku.

soooooo...you want to get rid of the new characters just to save the legacy characters? it's this kind of conservatism in media consumption that I will never understand.
NO. Read again, please.
It's not my fault when they leave those of the new characters I like in vinyards or on Vashti. Plus, Rios, btw.
And I don't vote for the Trois to join the regular cast, even though I like them. So please don't project.

so you wanna get rid of MOST of the new characters to save SOME of the legacy characters, gotya.
I fail to see how that makes it better, it just makes it a little more selective

Helloooo Chakotay, Wesley,...

Me: Well, at least they're not going to kill off Seven, she's a fan favorite
Spock: I would like a word.

Being an ex-Borg seems to make you marked for dead in this series.
I hope the trailers are wrong and Seven survives next episode
, because so many fans will riot if she doesn't survive :confused:

For better characters, old or new, as I wrote.
You clearly read what you want to read.I'll just do the sme.
Soooooo...you want me t o like badly written new characters just because they're new characters? it's this kind of blind progressivism in media consumption that I will never understand.

feel free to do that. I just doubt the "better" characters part when it comes to Icheb
(also, take any Berman Trek crew and judge them by their first 6 appearances, 7 in the case of Jurati, and tell me they are better developed than any of the PIC characters. Most of them found their footing after one or two seasons, or in the case of VOY characters: never

From the trailer, I think she activates the Borg cube by becoming its queen in a desperate attempt to stop the Romulans killing the XBs. That would be a hell of a challenge after her speech with Picard but when you're formerly one of unimatrix 01, you do what you gotta do. Trying to disconnect should be a challenge if that's what happens to her.

I wouldn't riot, but probably lose interest... I mean, they already remind us every episode that Picard is a walking dead...

Here are some assorted ramblings about this episode.

I was spoiled for this. I'm never keen on kids or teens in the show, but to my surprise, Kestra worked quite well for me, thanks to the young actress. Actually, I thought she stole the scenes with Dahj. Not a good thing for a regular character...

And great to see Troi and Riker again. Maybe a bit too long (did we really need to know about invented languages and stuff?) and sometimes bordering on soapy. Felt a bit like stalling, sometimes.Good chemistry between the Trois and Picard, though. Speaking of Picard...
that Man you remember Twenty-some odd years later.

With a butt-load of hardships under his belt and a gut full of anguish for not doing the right thing.
Yes, I'm fine with him being different, old, full of regrets, out of touch, and doomed to die.. But he basically admitted to being a bumbling old fool who doesn't have the slightest idea what he's doing. That's a bit much and, for me, not really compelling.

I felt like watching two shows which were not connected (even though they are). One, the planet-side drama with comfort food (literally) for Picard and trying to help an upset Soji solve her identity crisis. Two, the space/ Borg cube plot.

I did have to laugh at Picard's description of his new crew. Spot-on!
.
I was bummed to see Hugh killed, mostly because I liked him and hoped he'd be a recurring character...but also because it was the typical "We have no use for this character anymore so let's kill him for shock value" trope. I also hate when a character would otherwise be alive and well but because our hero came upon them, they're dead.
Good points. I wasn't worried for the Riker/Trois, though.
But of course, when Aggie tries to off herself, it doesn't work.
Raffi had my hopes going when "Aunt Raffi" was going for a heart-to-heart (or maybe knock over the head?) with Aggie, but noooo, it was just another little soap bit. Still, if Raffi gets her act together, she'll be formidable, so for now, she and Rios are my only hope in terms of new characters. Of course, at this point in the show, we shouldn't even be thinking of them as "new" anymore.

Ah well, most people seem to love the ep, so good for them, I guess.

The good news for next week: Seven of Nine! The bad news: Run, Seven, run!!

Yeah, go back to the episode and read what I wrote about Icheb.

I t wouldreally be nice if people replied to what other people actually wrote, instead of reacting on something they project onto them... Anyway, moving on.

No, I won't compare this show to 7 seasons/ 26 episode shows. A serialized show must work differently. I certainly didn't find every crew member equally interesting, that's for sure.

did we really need to know about invented languages
yes, it served several purposes:
1.) it gave Will a first hint that Soji was an android
2.) it gave Troi the opportunity to establish the idea that a homeworld was important in Soji's mind
3.) it led to the 'homeworld' callback at the dinnertable, which will presumably serve as motivation for Troi later this series (since she is wiser = less brave than 25 years ago) to help JL and Soji

Wood fired pizza? Chocolate cake? I'm hungry.

Fire at Will's....

I'd love to have perimeter defenses, too. Keep the blackflies and mosquitos out.

Troi gives good lecture.

Poor Hugh!

Fantastic episode. A reunion show with just enough action and intrigue. A solid 10 and an A+
Hugh... may be not dead? Yeah, he kinda looked like he bled out, but he has lots of Borg components in him that may keep him alive, and other Trek characters survived a lot worse than that. We'll see. Like I was saying before, Picard is a lot like Stranger Things... slow slow Bang Bang slow Bang Bang Bang. This episode was probably the last slow before big 3-part Bang Bang Bang finale... Bring it on, make it so!
