I think Hugh has become a victim of just how short the season is episode wise, if this was a 20+ episode season I doubt he would have been gone so soon.Impressions on first viewing:
Now to read all the comments.
- This episode was clunky--sometime the dialogue wasn't quite right, sometime the direction wasn't quite right.
- The overall story was very good--perhaps there was too much going on for even the 59 minutes the episode plays. It might have been better to split it in two.
- Poor Hugh: great acting from Del Arco, but I would have liked to get a little more mileage from the character.
- Lots of nice chemistry, especially with Elnor. I loved how he interacted with Hugh and how the crew on La Sirena admired him.
- Oh, no: in a rare moment when it's better to tell rather than show, we didn't need to go back three weeks to learn how Oh enlisted Jurati
- Soji learning to trust Picard was obviously the major tension for the episode, but this needed more time to play out.
- How long does it take to make a pizza, Will? You'd make a terrible sous chef as Sisko's.
- Come on, Raffi. Cake? You mean brownies, right?
A 10 episode season means there is very little spare space in each episode for guest stars apart from those that they intend to keep around like Seven.
It is probably best if everyone stops wishing for their favourite characters to appear as it will probably get them killed off.
However if there are any characters from previous Star Trek shows that you don't like then they are fair game.
