So the early spoilers were true, I thought as much.

Seven is probably going to end up leading the XB's in Hugh's place, assuming that Soji doesn't end up doing it.

As I said earlier in this thread and others, Picard will overturn the ban, if not this season then next.

That will then free Soji who can join Starfleet or something while continuing to search for the cabal.

Will be interesting to see how far the Zhat Vash have infiltrated in Starfleet, is Oh the big cheese or are there higher ups in other top positions.

Star Trek: Picard - The Search for a friendly face continues - RIP Hugh.

Picard is not going to be happy when he finds out.

Troi really dressed Picard down. That was one of the best scenes Sirtis has been given in, well, decades.

Despite her talents, Sirtis was quite under-used during much of TNG run - only as an eye candy (esp in the early seasons) and later as a largely passive victim of emotional torment and being 'mind raped' by the alien guest-of-the-week :confused:.

She hasn't had much other roles past TNG and the Trek movies. She played a small role in 'The Orville' last year but I was quite disappointed as I expected someone prominent like her should be given more screen time. So I'm glad to see her given more roles in this episode and hopefully in the last few episodes as well.

Sounds like they let Del Arco do the previously announcement as a sendoff. When Narizzo initially let him live because of the treaty, that woulda been a nice tease, if I hadn't read otherwise (occupational hazard). I hope CBS Japan has their shit together this week.

The Kestra and Soji stuff was cute. Soji's turgid plotline for the first half of the season seems to finally be paying off, as she seems pretty fucked up by everything that's happened to her.

I like that the Rikers are making real food. The damn magic food box gets way too much worship around here.

It's interesting how they tied the Rikers in with the synth ban via Thad's fate.

And we now have vomiting on Trek...can't wait for the pages and pages of outrage. Or have they already done it on Discovery? Not that it matters, that won't stop people from bitching about it.

Looks like Elnor called Seven back in...that was fast. This must be the first time that Elnor lost somebody he was protecting...that'll be a growing up experience.

Bloody typical. Why do they refuse to give us ships. They are just as big as characters as the humans.
Hero ships are characters. We have a hero ship: La Sirena.

Drink!

One of Enterprise's best episodes involved infection by a silicon pathogen. I don't know why positronics are the weakness, but no wonder Phlox couldn't lick it, that's one thing his menagerie can't produce.

Rizzo is just aggressively stupid.
* Starts interrogating Hugh. Gives up one minute later without obtaining the information she's after or accomplishing anything.
* "I would kill you too, but you're Federation! And you're protected by that asinine treaty!" Creeps along eavesdropping, hoping he'll say something incriminating so she can stay within the letter of the law. You're worrying about this NOW, after sending goons on multiple assassination attempts on Federation citizens in earlier episodes?
* Boasts that of course she's listening in on conversations on the cube. Somehow misses Picard literally broadcasting the name of the planet he'll be hiding on.
* Brags about all the resources available to her. Lets La Sirena go, tailed only by her unreliable, emotionally-conflicted brother.
* She doesn't even need to know about Nepenthe, since it's just a stop on the way to the ultimate goal. Now that she's in possession of hard-won clues about the homeworld, does nothing to research them. A child beats her to it.
* Let me just tell the name of my secret society, a name so protected that only elite intelligence agents have been able to ferret out whispers, to this dude with a sword.

Good episode, though I felt bad for Hugh. Rizzo is the worst. I also find myself feeling bad for Jurati, which is surprising since I was so angry at the character at the end of "Stardust City Rag" that I'm embarrassed to say that I actually shouted "Murderer!" at the screen. I almost teared up when Picard reunited with Troi and she could immediately sense that he wasn't well.

I wonder if something happened to the Ba'ku planet. I previously questioned why Picard's diagnosis was necessarily a death sentence if he could just go to Ba'ku and cure himself (though, as I understand it, he'd have to remain on the planet or else he'd just get sick again). Now it also seems as though it wasn't an option for Will and Deanna's son either.

I was hoping Hugh would last longer or even survive. I suppose Seven could always find a way to revive him with nanoprobes but he's probably gone for good now.
I was too, and I swear in an interview he mentioned something about Hugh in season two, although I suppose it could have been "cover" for his exit. That wound looked bad...........but I'm holding out for a "He's DEAD JIM" moment.

Impressions on first viewing:
  • This episode was clunky--sometime the dialogue wasn't quite right, sometime the direction wasn't quite right.
  • The overall story was very good--perhaps there was too much going on for even the 59 minutes the episode plays. It might have been better to split it in two.
  • Poor Hugh: great acting from Del Arco, but I would have liked to get a little more mileage from the character.
  • Lots of nice chemistry, especially with Elnor. I loved how he interacted with Hugh and how the crew on La Sirena admired him.
  • Oh, no: in a rare moment when it's better to tell rather than show, we didn't need to go back three weeks to learn how Oh enlisted Jurati
  • Soji learning to trust Picard was obviously the major tension for the episode, but this needed more time to play out.
  • How long does it take to make a pizza, Will? You'd make a terrible sous chef as Sisko's.
  • Come on, Raffi. Cake? You mean brownies, right?
Now to read all the comments.

She is just playing the standard stupid murderous villain part, I doubt she will survive until the end of the season.

Narek is playing the smarter but conflicted part, he may survive its hard to tell but more likely he will sacrifice himself.

It is rather silly that the Commodore would be willing to share such a secret with Jurati, its so secret that even Laris doesn't know much about it and Zhaban dismisses it as myth, of all the people in the galaxy I certainly wouldn't tell a secret like that to someone like Jurati.

The needs of the plot and all that.

the pacing of the episode was excellent, probably the best paced episode this season.

You mean faster than a drunken turtle? :)

I'll watch it after work tonight. I assume we find out for sure if Riker is retired (Frakes is reported to have confirmed that). Hopefully they give a reason other than, "We thought it was a good time to start a family." It would be nice if he was just relaxing during a Titan refit.
