Unpopular Trek opinions game

Well, Shran was a good character, at least? And the Vulcans in Enterprise ( again crappy hair non-withstanding) were pretty interesting. The uniforms and ship designs for the Enterprise were pretty nice as well.
I just didn't care about most of the characters and all that "temporal cold war" stuff (I just don't like time travel all that much)

 

That's nothing compared to the hair of the aliens of the week on DS9 or Voy. Take the Kazons for example.

 

That's my feeling as well. Pretty to look like; not engaged with the characters.

 

Well... Not quite. JMS still thinks that Paramount cribbed a lot from his Babylon 5 pitch for DS9 (He shopped B5 at Paramount before they announced DS9), but he was advised not to pursue it legally as it would likely kill off his series before it even got started. That's not quite the same as "He doesn't think they ripped him off."

But he did try to make peace with the Trek fandom. That was a big reason why Majel Barrett did a guest shot on B5.

It does get better. The first season is a slow build, but it gives you the background necessary to appreciate the main arc once it kicks into high gear in the second season.

Not really. Arc storytelling and serialization had become pretty common in American TV ever since Hill Street Blues premiered in 1981.

 

I'd say even before that, you had Soap in the late-70's.

 

There was also the "Peyton Place" series in the sixties, which aired in prime time and was presented as a prestigious, respectable drama and not just another cheap soap opera.

I dont like FC that much, to me half is good and half is just nonsense

 

I mean, I'm onboard. It's one of the few TNG films I can stand and that's about 50% for me, or 40/60 depending on the day.

 

Its the best TNG film by default. I like the Stuff in the ground with Chockrine but the stuff on the Enterprise is just *generic action movie noises*

 

If it was generic action film stuff I could find some enjoyment of it. But, it barely passes for that.

Aside from the zero g combat. I liked that.

 

I think it caught on with popular masses because it was probably the most "generic" star trek movie aside from IV which while funny and good could probably be called "generic time travel movie"

 

Well, time travel is a well worn Trek trope so IV has a lot of appeal to the public. Which is fine by me. The more public appeal the better.

 

I wish they had a live-action Star Trek series in the '70s. "It would've looked horrible!" To that I have to say, you either love the horrible aesthetic of the '70s or you're wrong.

 

I hate the transporter effects from Star Trek II through VI. It's so boringly simple and the sound effects for it are loud and annoying. I much prefer the transporter effect from TMP. It was the best transporter effect of the entire franchise.

 

I like the parallel Earth stuff, but I'm not sure there was much more that they could honestly do with it.

 

As a fan of TOS it would have been intriguing to see Trek evolve naturally into the 70s, but as I have said on here before, it would have looked ridiculous with everyone having Neil Young sideburns and long hair.
Even "acceptable" shortish hair in the 70s, would be way too long or out of control for Trek.
And the crew might even have had the dubious honour of having to wear flared trousers.
