Unpopular Trek opinions game

After watching the cage for the first time i actually prefer the cage uniforms over the regular TOS ones

I loved the black and silver/grey colour scheme of the bridge. And the landing party jackets. I wish they'd kept that.

Sure RCA/NBC wanted to sell colour TVs but that bridge, minus the red railing and door was sleek.

Tho some of the language of the cage makes it sound like a star trek porn parody lol

Considering they were made of something like inverted carpet padding, they would have disappeared fast. Even if they came up with a new material and kept the costume element, they would have looked different the next time we saw them.

Probably the only really unpopular opinion around here would be 'all Trek is drivel and no one in his/her right mind should waste his/her time watching it' :)

I still think DS9 copied/ lifted a bit from Babylon 5. There, unpopular enough? *ducks and hides*

Did they, though? Sure, Babylon 5 premiered two weeks before DS9 did, but the primary similarities stated by strict B5 fans all don't exist until you get to series proper. Things like the young doctor, fresh from the academy, that sort of thing. And even though B5 premiered first, DS9 went right to series, while B5 took a year off to make their first season before airing it. DS9 was on the air for a year before B5 got to series proper, and it was only then that the similarities showed up. So who copied whom?

There's even more difference if you consider that (at least according to Memory Alpha) they originally wanted DS9 to be located on Bajor itself (I assume something like Farpoint Station in the TNG pilot?) but the location shooting would have been too expensive.
Bottomline DS9 and Babylon 5 are both good SciFi shows.

I will say i tried watching B5 (because its free on prime) and i do have to say i found it hard to get through the first three episodes does it get better after season 1? Maybe ill give it another shot

I think personally the direction Trek is going in is going to massively backfire. The problem is these new shows are not good nor interesting and have no hook. They retain nothing really what makes Trek an unique sci-fi franchise and are clearly just trying to be Mass Effect mashed with every trope from Prestige television with a Trek skin and frankly are just frankly atrociously written and paced and outside of TrekBBS and /r/StarTrek I find almost nobody I know who likes these shows or even watches them.
You can tell they're going for the Star Wars/Mass Effect audience but all the Star Wars/ME friends of mine dropped Discovery after like 3 episodes into S2 and all of them dropped Picard after 2 episodes. The fact is, there are far better sci-fi shows out there on much better and larger streaming platforms than what we are getting out the Trek franchise at the moment.

What these new shows have done though, is put Star Trek sort of back into popular consciousness, so what I'm seeing among my younger Gen Y and Zoomer friends is people rediscovering TNG, DS9, ENT and Voy and loving them. Every time I'm in the Pub and TV show talk comes up and Star Trek comes up which is suprisingly often, people are watching DS9, ENT or TNG again or for the first time. What is also more interesting to me is a lot of Gen Y/Zoomer women are starting to bring up they're watching TNG or Voyager etc.

People here and on /r/StarTrek that everyone wants some lame dark mystery box soap opera in space, but honestly in this time where the real world sucks, politics is awful and things are stressful, I think people legitimately just connect with the Utopian, relaxed, COMFY shows that B&B Trek are. The reason I put comfy in capitals is because that is what I hear repeatedly from people IRL who are now watching TNG, it's just a comfy show.

Star Trek shouldn't change the way it tells its stories to fit with the times. I think they're late to the game with the serialization. DS9 was ahead of it's time with the way it was structured. Enterprise had two and three episode arcs mixed in with stand alone episodes. Then there was a huge break without Trek during which a bunch of other shows came and went that were serialized.

Star Trek is Comfy. Especially from TOS to ENT. They are very re-watchable. I've never felt the need to re-watch Discovery or Picard.

Star Trek is it's own brand of tv. To make it like everything else is a mistake.

Season one lays a lot of the plot elements that are used later on. The story does get more compelling, unfortunately the acting and special effects generally do not.

From the second season on it does get a lot better. It's not a perfect show, but it was one of the first US genre shows that were heavily serialized.

Big changes occur for Season 2, like
Sinclair is replaced by Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner). And we get space wars!
