Unpopular Trek opinions game

I will say i tried watching B5 (because its free on prime) and i do have to say i found it hard to get through the first three episodes does it get better after season 1? Maybe ill give it another shot
It does get better, but if my memory seves (it's been a while), if you are not already hooked on some aspects (for me, Londo/ G'Kar and the Narn/ Centauri conflict, and at that time the Vorlons), it might not be for you. I'd still give it another try.

1997 called. It wants its Flame War back.
I wasn't around at the time, but I hope that 22 ys later, that's not an issue anymore.

I am not, btw., a "strict" B5'er, as someone upthread calls it, I like both shows.

When i first heard Londo's voice i laughed so hard lol

It's not an issue. I should've used an emoticon. Like this. :p

Though flashback to 1997. Because why not? Here's an exchange I had with someone else on another board at the time (TrekBBS wasn't around yet). It was in a thread he started called, "Star Trek feasts on its own entrails" (classy title ). He was complaining about the state of the Star Trek Franchise and I think he was trying to compare Gene Roddenberry to Tim Burton and Rick Berman to Joel Schumacher. I'm going to try to paraphrase part of it as best as I can...

Them: TOS is like Batman (1989), TNG is like Batman Returns, and Voyager is like Batman Forever.

Me: You deliberately left out DS9. Is that because it messes up your analogy?

Them
: DS9 is just a rip-off of Babylon 5, so it doesn't count because it's not even Star Trek. Voyager, OTOH, tries to be Star Trek and fails miserably.

Then someone else hit him with a comeback that I won't repeat here because you could get away with it back in 1997, but it would never fly today.

Unpopular opinion?

Sto-Vo-Kor isn't real. And the notion of, in the middle of a war, half a command crew running off to 'support Worf and his fairytale beliefs' is court-martial material.

Unpopular Opinion: Star Trek season three is better than most of what we've gotten from the various spinoffs.

While I disagree with that, I'm gonna say that the Romulans in the Enterprise Incident were more interesting (and less silly looking) than they would ever be in TNG or even DS9 and the Female Commander was a more compelling character than all the named Romulan characters from 90s Trek combined (seriously what was Sela even?).

Indeed, their uniforms are just ridiculous, overly padded shoulders and the stupid pocket for their disruptor, that just silly.

Absolutely. People love to shit on S3 of TOS because it was relatively less effective than the first two seasons and because it's well documented that the budgets were cut and Gene was basically out. That said, it was also far more science-fiction-y than the previous seasons and it was tonally very fascinating as well.

I actually really like that they got away from a lot of the parallel-Earth stuff that seemed to be the theme of S2.

Don't forget the awful hair.
I don't get why they never changed those uniforms (and hair) again during the series run. The Cardassians went through a couple awful uniform designs (and some awful hair, particularly female Cardassians) before they settled on the (pretty good looking) uniforms shown on DS9.

heck in ENT know when they showed romulans not to do the shoulder pads, i like the brief romulan uniforms they showed in ENT, they seemed stylish an piratical

Ron Moore said he kept pushing for an evolution in Romulan fashion for years and Berman finally allowed them to change the costumes in season 3. The Die Is Cast two-parter is the first episode to feature the the new Romulan outfits.

From Memory Alpha:

This episode marks the appearance of a new style of Tal Shiar uniform. This redesign was Ronald D. Moore's idea. After he watched the episode "Visionary", he came to feel that the old style Romulan uniforms were unacceptable and he had Robert Blackman give the design an overhaul; "I hated, underline hated, the Romulan costumes. Big shoulder pads, the quilting, I just loathed it. I begged, insisted, screamed, pleaded." (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion)

Can wait to get to my rewatch of DS9 Season 3 then :-)
Unfortunately they still have the crappy hairstyles though :-(

Well if enterprise had one redeeming factor, then it was that the design and special effects on the Aliens were pretty good.
