Who should the next rival of the Federation.

The Cincinnati Bengals. It would be a breeze for the Federation.

I keed.

Actually, I always thought the Andorians would make for great bad guys. Yes, I know they're founding members of the Federation, but I liked them as the quasi-bad guys in Enterprise. Say the pulled out of the Federation for whatever reason and managed to convince some other Federation members to join them... I think it 'could' be interesting.

Clearly the best choice would be Ronin, angry that he couldn't have his way with the Crusher family anymore so then he wants to blow up the entire Earth for no reason. (If it worked for some Trek movies, *cough* Shinzon, *hic* Nero, etc...)

Salt Vampires - hoards of them!

Pass them the salt...

In some posts, I have expressed the opinion that Salt Vampires and Klingons in Star Trek, like the Xenomorphs in the Alien franchise, might possibly be artificial lifeforms created by genetic engineering to be biological weapons. A hostile power might grow a lot of salt vampires in the lab and then transport them down to a target planet to prey on the native lifeforms including intelligent beings.

Why does there always have to be a rival or an enemy? Why can't the question be, "who should be the Federation's next partner in the fascinating exploration of the unknown?"

The Voth would simply be too powerful. In terms of power, they're probably somewhere between the Q and the Borg (at least, they could probably choose to be well above the Borg with all that fantastic technology they have: high transwarp without needing a transwarp network, the ability to switch off all defenses of voyager with the flick of a switch, etc). The Borg had to be made thoroughly less effective in order to keep it at least a bit believable Voyager could escape from such confrontations again and again, so the same would need to happen with the Voth.

As far as I'm concerned, I can see some potential in the Hierarchy. Even though the persons we saw in Voyager were not that competent, the organisation itself is clearly malevolent. Imagine them returning in a nastier, more competent, ruthless form, stealing secrets from the Federation and selling them to the highest bidder. (for example). Probably they would need to be allied with a strong military power (or have one themselves that we never saw up until now) to "survive" a military confrontation with the Federation, though.

The Borg. It'll be a mismatched buddy comedy for the ages.

Hardly no one is talking about the Breen. We don't even know how they look like. They could make a good rival of the Federation.

Until the Federation invents a "refrigeration dampening field" ;)

But I agree, they are a good, mysterious species to make a rival.

A squad of Androids with the body and face of:

Brian Brophy

Yeah. Either that or:

Sheer fucking hubris

I know it's been said before, in the Picard subforum for a similar thread, but oh well.
