Disliking an episode is fine. Arguing about the same shit over and over across two threads and 60 pages because some pedant HAS to be right loses it's likeability pretty quickly.

Well, when I get 17 notifications from 12 different people who all want to argue the same points, can we at least agree that if it is repetitive, that I had some help in that area? I just read a few posts from people, yourself included, anticipating the next one. How about we put that to bed? Shall we?

Let me add my voice to those that do not think Raffi's life is essentially tragic. She's a stoner--perhaps a "high functioning " stoner. She drinks . She lives in the desert in what may count for a mobile home. None of those things automatically mean that she is suffering. OTOH, she gave up, losing purpose in her life and becoming withdrawn. To use old words from JL, she stopped bettering herself. That said, she seems still capable of applying herself, and there is no indication that her drug use will hamper Picard's mission in any significant manner.

You have to know when to walk away, or better still just scroll right past it in the first place.

Too many try to get the last word in like its some kind of competition to be won, which it isn't.

Don't post if you can't handle people disagreeing with you. There is probably a pretty good reason that 12 people are critiquing your point of view. If you can't understand why that is, I can't help you. You didn't need to reply to my post you originally quoted. It wasn't aimed at you and it was done to make a joke. Yet you in your endless need to be right all time just had to say something. If you want things to be put to bed then take some initiative and start doing it yourself, instead of engaging people who don't want to argue with you to argue with you.

That is my impression as well. Before she gets too hard on JL for giving up, maybe she should look in the mirror. What has she been doing for 14 years? Smoking dope and getting drunk? Seems to me that she wasnt doing much either.

No doubt, she overrelied on Picard. She should have been the one to charge forward.

I do get it. In another life, I worked on a few political campaigns. They are intense experiences. When they fail, it's hard for those involved to relate. Perhaps those involved in "causes" ought to be stronger, but the emotions can be overwhelming.

I have no doubt that for her it was a crushing experience. We went over some numbers for a mass evac. It seems clear that a gigantic number of people must have died on Supernova Day. A large number, maybe not all, could have been saved if the Federation had helped the over-worked Romulan fleet. If it was a cause she believed in and knowing how many more will now perish...I cant imagine. A crushing blow to everyone involved. To an 80 year old Admiral at the end of his career as well as to a young Commander Raffi.

Clearness and you do not seem to intersect on a venn diagram

Other than him SAYING he wanted her? Which he DID. What venn diagram is that on? Oh..I know....it is on the Goodnight Photoman15 diagram! Nite Nite....moving on.

I got the impression that while Maddox came across as an Asshat in TNG, the one thing he would never support was a "synth" ban. He cares about synths in his own way, is invested in them and fascinated by them.

The Blessed St James of the Iowa cornfield....we salute Thee!
The Sisko of the Celestial heavenly holes for worms..we salute Thee!
Of course, they are nothing like respected Starfleet officers who actually have a soft spot for the Romulans and will turn around one day to bring about enough suspicion on themselves to warrant being followed by Starfleet security and go about hiring off the board pilots with unregistered ships for parts unknown. But enough about Dr. McCoy.

As soon as Synths were banned and Maddox still wanted to secretly keep going, that's when he went rogue.

He gambles because he knows how to rig it and that funds him so he can buy the goods he needs from the black market. No doubt being connected to the black market has caused to turn a blind eye to shady things or led him to do other shady things himself.

The fact that Dahj and Soji exist at all means he'd already parted ways with "by the book" a long time ago.

Why is Bruce Maddox, who was a very by-the-book, the law is the law, type of person in MoaM participating in illegal activities 25 years later?

People change. Why was Kirk a stack of books with legs around 2250 at Starfleet Academy but a loose, dynamic individual with a twinkle in his eye and a tendency to ignore the Prime Directive by 2270?

Because life happens.
