Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

The Excelsior-class was last seen in canon in 2378(?) if one or two were part of the Starfleet armada that welcomed Voyager back to the Alpha Quadrant. That's at least 21 years since they were last witnessed in action but then that doesn't mean anything.

Are we going to see famous Excelsior-class in Star Trek Picard show?

If we do, I hope it is the original version. The Enterprise refit is just fugly.

Yes..but used by pirates..

I doubt the Federation would so willingly give up a 500+ meter long heavy cruiser which as recently as 2379 was still a front line vessel
Ultimately the show runners can come up with whatever reason they want, just as they did with the BoP, I dont particularly mind what they give us.

I do think the class would be still be of value in a Destroyer role, screening the larger ships.

Plus I have no doubt the Klingons will still be using classic BoP's as well for scouting if nothing else.

Wouldnt surprise me if the Excelsior class was used as a heavily armed bus on regular routes.

So people can catch the Number 9 Excelsior class to Riza with very reasonable baggage allowances.

P.S Dont scream the 500m+ thing too loudly as you are liable to set someone off.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the size of the larger one was determined by the model's size compared to the Ent-D model's size.

Pretty much. Which is why the ones scaled to the Romulan warbird in “The Defector” just took things to the ridiculous extremes.

The Excelsior herself is more elegant and has a more streamlined appearance. She's "cleaner." But once I saw the Enterprise-B I had a new favorite of that class.

I very much doubt any of the original configurations still exist by this time, all the existing ships from that time would have been refit many times over by now.

There were only two official designations of Klingon BOP classes. There was the "B'rel" class, that was considered a "scout class vessel" ("wessel"?), supporting "about a dozen officers and men" from TSFS (read - tiny), and later the "K'Vort" class versions which appeared to have a wingspan that rivaled the diameter of the Galaxy class saucer section. No other official names (or sizes) exist, to my knowledge, although FASA did postulate there were three distinct sizes of the design that they "stole" from the Romulans, and that the Romulans were particularly unhappy about having to go up against larger Klingon versions of the ships they designed.
Or there is just one size and we ignore the wonky FX.

We saw just two refitted Excelsior-class ships between 1994 and the end of the Berman Era: the Enterprise-B and the Lakota in "Paradise Lost(DS9)," which itself was just a reuse of the existing 1701-B shooting model with a new name and hull registry number.

It is unlikely we will see one again, then again if you had told me we would be seeing an even older original Romulan BoP I wouldnt have believed you

They could have used a Klingon BoP as the Pirate ship as well but using a Romulan ship at least makes a nice change.

Well, at least two sizes and three classes of Klingon Bird-of-Prey are already canon. K'vort, B'rel and D-12. Wonky F/X aside there's already a CBS/Paramount-approved reason why they look wonky. Nobody has to pay attention to the studio-approved reference guides but it's clear that there are different sizes of the vessel seen from 2285 until 2375.
