Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

It's not a given that there is a TMP refit anymore. I think CBS is saying there was only ever one TOS Enterprise (looks the same as -A). I just can't see Discoprise morphing into original TMP refit.
If they still want to have a TMP refit (and -A that looks like TMP refit) as historical Enterprises, then they would have to make a new TMP refit, based on Discoprise. Won't the Interwebz explode if that version is ever shown on screen :D

We see the TMP refit Enterprise in the Short Trek “Ephraim & Dot.”

Seeing Kruge’s original BoP in STIII, and then seeing the exact same ship with a wingspan as long as a Romulan warbird in TNG, is pretty solid proof that not all BoPs are the same size.

People also forget that the "K'Vort" was from an alternate timeline as well, so it's entirely possible that particular variant never truly existed in the prime timeline

Tell that to CBS, Paramount and Mike Okuda. Sure, there are different sizes. The creators have already said so and dating back decades.
*shrug* Whatever headcanon Okuda put in the Trek Encyclopedia isn't canon. The fact is that K'vort and B'rell did use the same stock footage and one and same BoP seemed to vary wildly in size. Are there different versions of Defiant too to explain how it appears to be different size in different scenes?

No, but then again no one ever used a Defiant class ship to represent another ship that was even larger than a Galaxy class ship.

Yeah, and who wants to bet CBS will ignore it completely if and when they want to show that time period in live-action TV :)

I don’t think that CBS will be changing any other ships into something we’ve never seen before. I honesty believe that they realized it wasn’t a good move after DSC S2 but felt the need to justify their decision by showing the Discoprise in STP to link the two shows together in the “prime” timeline.

So in a way, Discovery and Picard are in a re-boot universe where the TOS Enterprise always looked like that. I wish they'd just say its a re-boot and be done with it.

They've always said Discovery is a visual reboot..just that the events, people, etc, are all the same

Well, that’s the way I always felt about DSC; STP, not so much.

I think the refit looks just fine this way.

Did they actually say that, or was it just a fan interpretation?

And even if they did say that, “visual reboot” is just a buzzword. The Christopher Nolan Batman films are a “visual reboot” of the ‘60’s TV show, but Nolan isn’t remotely saying that his films take place in the same continuity as the show. Because he knew that his films could stand on their own two feet and didn’t need any link to the show for people to watch them.

Branding.

End of story. It allows them to sell their Enterprise design and make money from it. It adds nothing to the Trek universe and isn't even explained in-universe. It just is. It's all about the bottom line and selling their own creation.

Yep. Which is why, if we do see the Enterprise in STP, it will be a completely new design. Call it the F, the G, the H, it doesn’t matter. It will be something new they can merchandise the hell out of.
