    Yep.

Hilariously, neither were originally planed but ended up being made thanks to a bullshit artist.

When a Child World (No.2 toy store at the time) buyer pointed out kids knew the backstory of Star Wars toys because of the movie and asked what they had to make kids want to buy He-Man toys the guy ass pulled that they came with a comic that told the backstory. Later on they showed Toy's R Us the toys and pointed out they came with a mini comic. The Toy's R Us buyer made a crack that five year olds don't read so what's the point of a comic. True to form the the guy ass pulled that they were going to have two one hour specials. When the guy approached Filmation to make the specials they suggested they make a syndicated series instead as the would both be roughly the same price to make.

I also love the fact She-Ra came to be because the girls toy department of Mattel got pissed off that He-Man toys were out selling Barbie ones.

He-Man was allegedly aimed just for boys but the makers discovered 1 out of every 5 viewers was female. "She-Ra" was borne out of that and had a life of her own. I do not know how many boys would have watched, though it's a large enough universe either which way.

(apologies if that had already been posted...)

Has a lot on the subject, including a reminder that won't ever be dated that continuations and reboots even back then weren't well-received (or dated well) if they strayed too far from the core/most beloved premise(s) or lack a coherent vision. "He-Man" was about selling toys, but the universe with a compelling backstory for whatever demographics still needed to be created. Nobody likes a stick figure, unless you smash a marshmallow on top and put it over a roaring campfire. But all those empty calories, gelatine made from (well, you don't want to know but it's suffice to say that at least no part of the critter used was wasted, unless they gave it some whiskey beforehand) and corn syrup? Yuck, it's been forever since marshmallows were made from roots and sap from a tree and with real sugar... actually, the modern ones aren't as tough and excessively sweet. At least the sweetness can be controlled when mixing the compounds together but why am I rambling on about marshmallows that Jack Nicholson would describe as "freakin'"? 1980s He-Man and She-Ra rule. And at least the toys weren't edible. Again, yuck...

Kev is doing his Roadshow for "Jay & Silent Bob Reboot" right now, and documenting it on his YouTube channel. In his latest video, he paid a visit to Powerhouse Animation where they're currently working on animating He-Man:

No matter how much weight he loses Kevin Smith’s clothes never seem to fit quite right. Plus, blazer and jorts... anyway, um, back to He-Man...

That just seems to be his look.
I can't remember if this has been specifically addressed, but I'm assuming this is not going to be realted to the current She-Ra series?

Reportedly it's a direct sequel to the original Filmation series, which seems like it's more an indulgence of its producers' nostalgia than something made for today's kids like She-Ra is.

It's exactly that, and it's similar to the Picard show being made as a reaction against Discovery, which somebody wrote about a short while ago.

Kevin Smith isn't making this as a reaction against the new She-Ra, he's just doing what he knows.
Also, this allows Netflix to have two shows from the same IP without putting undue pressure on either one to synergize and crossover. The She-Ra team are now free to create their own version of Eternia and Adam if they so choose.

You beat me to it, I was about half way through the list when your post popped up. They've put together one hell of a cast.

I had a high school buddy who could do Mer-Man perfectly. Conroy's great but it's hard to imagine.
Not the main man this time but I'm glad the 89 year old OG is on board
    Snoochie Boochies
More nepotism but she was the best part of the not-so-great last Jay and Silent Bob.

No, he was in the original toyline, though one of the latter figures, though he never appeared in previous animated shows, and only a very few comics.

Of course he got Mark Hamill to do Skeletor.

I hope he does better than that 2016 episode. Skeletor sounded nothing like Skeletor in that one.

I have never seen any of the old He-Man, but with that cast and the people behind the show, I'll definitely be checking this out.

    It's not a He-Man movie

    It's a Teela Movie.

Or did y'all notice this last month?
