Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

Morbius kinda looks like a trailer for a movie from a decade ago when Vampires were all the rage (again). Kinda derivative and if I'm honest the thought that crossed my mind watching the trailer was "less visually interesting and way more gothy 'Doctor Strange' knock-off."

I'm honestly not bothered by the MCU connections since it's pretty much guaranteed to be a one-way street and even then, will only last as long as the time until next contract renegotiation. That said, assuming this doesn't land with a thud it does rather make a 'Morbius vs. Blade' movie at some point down the road a total no-brainer.

Agreed. Venom reminded me a lot of Ghost Rider. And while I can't really justify it, I really enjoy that 2000s aesthetic with the dark lighting. All Morbius needs now is a nuMetal soundtrack ala Daredevil or Underworld and it's 2003 all over again! :D

A supposed plot leak for Mobius posted by someone who claims to have seen the movie, and apparently was able to back up this claim, lists several more cameos that connects this movie to Venom and the larger MCU.

On top of the already revealed appearance of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes, we will see Michael Mando as Mac Gargan / Scorpion, Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady and JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. Also, "the blip" is referenced, and the manhunt for the criminal Peter Parker is apparently mentioned.

Just thinking about Spider-Man generally, I realized that, when I read a Spider-Man comic, the voice in my head is still the one from the 1990s cartoon. So, seriously, who do I have to f--k to get them to put that show on DVD!?!?

Christopher Daniel Barnes. Yup, me too, along with most of the rest of that show's cast (though sometimes J.K. Simmons's voice edges out Ed Asner's in my head). And its background music. And its sound effects. It had the coolest spider-sense sound effect.

I remember back when my friend had a Spider-Man cartoon maker CD-ROM game based on the 1990s cartoon. It was pretty basic. You could pick a bunch of different backgrounds and then fill them with a bunch of different characters with a limited animation cycle and stock sound effects. The stock sound of the police officer's radio got permanently stuck in my head and I can still pick it out when I hear it in the background in TV ads & stuff. "[undistinguishable] point six, one-oh-five north avenue and fifty-two." Just repeated on a loop over and over.

While the source is indeed dubious, it does make sense.
Especially with Sony's long-standing desire to make "The Sinister Six" a thing. Another thing; Michael Mando was said to be appearing in the now defunct "Silver and Black", further indicating that Sony had plans for the character.

So, given what's been established and rumored, who do you think would be a part of this hypothetical MCU linked Sinister Six team? My guesses follow.

1. That the team is to be led by Michael Keaton's Vulture is pretty much a given.
2. Carnage. Sony won't want to exclude their $800 million dollar blockbuster movie from the mix. This doesn't exude Venom himself being in the movie in a more heroic capacity.
3. Given Toomes' interest in Morbius in the trailer makes him a safe bet, as does the fact he has his own movie coming soon.
4. Mac Gargan, the Scorpion. Even if one were to disregard the "Morbius" and "Silver and Black" rumors, his scene with Toomes in the end credits scene in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" indicates that he will essential in forming the team.
5. Mysterio. What, you really believe that he died? I can see a clash between him and Toomes over who should lead the team.
6. Moving into hypotheticals, I really want to see Kraven the Hunter. If the rumors that he will appear in MCU-Spider-Man 3 pan out, I will call it a sure thing.

I have a few alternate choices. Shocker and Tinkerer are possibilities. Donald Glover as the Prowler. And a super-duper longshot-- Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin. Or maybe someone we haven't seen yet. Black Cat? Lady Octopus? The Chameleon? Hammerhead? The Spot?

I don't think Mysterio's death in Far from Home is going to be undone, and I don't think any of the protagonists of Sony's MCU-adjacent films will ever be meant to be seen as villains, which makes picking a full Sinister Six lineup difficult.

For now, though, I'm going with Vulture, Shocker, Tinkerer, Scorpion, Carnage, and Hunger.

They have the complete series on Disney+, along with Unlimited, the 80s series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and the current series.

5. Mysterio, What, you really believe that he died?
I certainly assumed that he was pulling yet another fake-out. Peter starts to ask EDITH, "Is he dead?" but stops and instead asks, "Is this real?" to which she replies "All illusions are down, Peter." Which seems to imply he is dead but actually leaves a massive out for him to be alive. You don't need a hologram to fake your death. :)

@DigificWriter -- your point about Morbius is well taken. However, I still expect he will be involved in some capacity.
@Tosk -- also, EDITH's claim that Beck is dead is suspect because control of the glasses were never actually returned to Peter. Recall that they had to transfer the glasses to Beck's control, but they never did anything to officially give them back to Peter.

Control was returned to Peter when he put them on. EDITH says, "Biometric scan complete. Welcome back, Peter." So evidently Tony set it up so that EDITH defaults to Peter when he puts on the glasses. But EDITH never actually says that Beck is dead.

Edit: Unless you mean that the entire shut-down was also part of the ruse? Like, Beck got EDITH to pretend to be under Peter's control but really the attack ending was the plan? Mysterio does love intricate plans within plans, so you never know.

This. I don't think it was his main plan, but rather a backup plan if things went South. He might not even have recorded that message we saw at the end on the bridge. He could recreate it perfectly with the holographic technology that he had at his disposal.
