John Williams already won an Oscar for scoring the original SW. He hasn't won again for scoring in that series, despite having been nominated a total of five other times (altogether six times, for all of the OT and all of the ST; never for the PT, incredibly).

I was convinced he'd win all the other awards then lose the big one (like Keaton or Rourke) so I'm happy to have been wrong. Happy also to see a win for the composer, the score was excellent.

I am only disappointed that it had to happen at the expense of John Williams' last Star Wars score. Would've been nice to see him win with his first and last.

Phoenix won. Two Oscars for the Joker character. That has to be on some sort of list.

In any case, I am satisfied he won. He had the best performance of the year (many years, to be honest), and as far as comic-based movies go, his performance left all others from 2019 in the dust.

Easily one of the top three or four greatest performances of any comic-based film in history.

If he did not win for TESB (arguably his best SW score), there was no way any PT score would get it.

A movie where he wrestled a CGI Bear won him his Oscar? No, it was just his consolation prize from the Academy for not getting it sooner.

Same with Winslet winning for The Reader.

Same with Phoenix and Joker.
