2399 Starfleet commbadge close-up

Lower Half pip is: if this is an admiral we're seeing, what's the significance of her division color? How often do we see admirals in operations gold?
It is rare, but we have seen Admiral Toddman in operations gold. And, going back to TOS, Commodore Stone and Stocker are both in Operations Red.

I personally want to see more flag officers in the different division colors, as well as more variety among uniforms.

trekcore posted another picture of the swag combadge and now it looks like it's silver and gold (not black like in previous photos). is this a different pin or was it just a trick of the light in the previous shot?

When are these for sale?!

i'm sure they'll start hitting eBay for $200 soon, but otherwise who knows? QMX did discovery pins but never released the enterprise badges from season 2 they announced last summer, so the market for mass produced, accurate starfleet badges might be dead...

Definitely not for me.

A shame as I picked up five of the six Discovery badges they released. Also, they have Mirror Universe badges that have been 'coming soon' forever.

They put the small ones they gave away at the premieres up for sale this past week. Also the visitor badge.

"Commodore" in this context is a subset of "admiral". It's a flag officer rank.

We have no onscreen confirmation that in Starfleet Commodore is a flag rank. In many navies around the world it is not a flag rank, and is in fact the senior 'field' rank. Given that Commodore Oh wears the standard Starfleet uniform and not the flag uniform worn by Clancy, I'd suggest that in Starfleet, Commodore is not regarded as a flag rank.

So hypothetically, if we had seen a Commodore in TNG, they would have worn the standard TNG uniform, just with the one-pip-in-a-box insignia.

Certainly possible - but in TOS, Commodore sleeve markings featured the broad Flag Stripe as their basis. Rather than, say, the triple Line braid incorrectly suggested in the old Tech Manual. And the uniforms themselves were the same for Line and Flag, as per the rare Admiral we saw.
