Spoilers Santiago Cabrera as Captain Cristóbal "Chris" Rios

I love the idea his entire crew are holograms of himself, playing each differently. It's genius.

The real version of him though is a generic Han Solo type, and the scene where he's sitting there with shrapnel in his shoulder was cliche as F. I wonder if they looked up the guy who played Okuna first. Early days yet though.

Do you really think Han Solo also reads texts on existentialism?

Quite. And Han Solo himself was an archetype, rather than the first of that type. Plenty of characters in plenty of shows have been based around traditional archetypes - heck, Picard himself is very much an archetype. Archetypes are a solid starting point for creating new characters, what matters is how they develop beyond that, and honestly, Rios has had about five minutes of screentime so far and already has plenty of quirks to mark him out as an individual beyond that basic archetype. I have no doubt he will continue to develop from there.

I hope Will pushes hard for spoilers. I doubt he will due to his nature but to would be nice to have him grill Cabrera to reveal some secrets. Will is smart enough to use wordplay to trick people into revealing things.
The show's a promo piece. Will's not going to be "grilling" anyone and the guests aren't going to be revealing any secrets that aren't allowed to be revealed. It's just like Talking Dead.

Which is unfortunate as if the show developed a reputation for revealing a small spoiler each week more would watch it compared to now

LOL two more: Hospitality, and Emergency Gunner?
I love the extreme contrast between these two new ones:D
Cabrera is killing it with the multiple EHs

I watched Santiago's interview with Wheaton, and even though I'd seen him on Heroes(Isaac Mendez), Merlin(Lancelot), and Three Musketeers(as Aramis), I'd never heard his natural accent, I had no idea, he actually sounds more like the first Hologram we met, the EMH is truer to his real self,. The main guy Rios that he's playing and the spanish accent, is more of an act! Or at least he can easily flow between them.

Yeah, I've seen a bunch of interviews he's given over the years, so have commented previously that the EMH is the character on this show closest to his regular voice. He spent a number of formative years at school in London and then returned to London to drama school, so his normal speaking voice for English is London-accented - although he's spent enough time in the US since that the odd American inflection slips in here and there.

I enjoyed the little detail with the Hospitality hologram crowding Picard’s personal space with his eagerness to help and Picard spending all his time trying to escape him while trying to remain polite.

I really hope we see the Gunner hologram again. He was hilarious.

Surely there will be a Human Resources Hologram somewhere along the way? It doesn’t look like Jurati goes down to the planet in the next episode when they all dress up so I’m thinking this will give her the chance to chat to some of the EHs and we’ll get a bit of a hint about Rios’ story.

During The Ready Room interview, Cabrera called EMMETT the Emergency Tactical/Security Hologram.

I can't remember, is this the first one to have an actual name?

I think so, yes. I've been wondering what it means that he actually named this one.

I'm also wondering if the personalities are pre-programmed and he just added his likeness to that base programming, or if he's tinkered with some of the personalities himself. I lean toward the former, from his attitude toward them. He finds them all annoying, but I guess feels more comfortable telling them to go away if they look like him than he would if they looked like someone else. He's Starfleet enough that a hologram that looked like someone else and was working on his ship as a crewmember would have to be treated with respect, as a crewmember.

I think they have referred to previous ones as EMH and ENH......think they even did during the interview.

We don't know yet how long he's been flying around alone.
I'm thinking he's probably had more than enough time to fiddle and adjust them all to be of his liking.
The base program probably has just one generalized character and he's put forth a lot of time and effort to make them separate individuals.

The fact that they are all him but each looks very different is probably a clue as to how long he's been out there alone.

And yet they clearly aren't to his liking. He actively dislikes most of them that we've seen. It's an interesting character note - why would you programme holograms that look like you, that you absolutely hate? Says a lot about his state of mind.

Thinking about it, the only one we've seen so far that he didn't seem to despise was Emmett - also the only one with a name.

I think 'dislikes/hates' is the wrong feeling to employ in this instance.

So far all we've seen is annoyance, and that is only when the EH's start to pin Rios down with his own internal logical thoughts.
There's obviously a method to his madness, but as we've seen so far, there are times when he doesn't want to face it.

I think he uses them as his 'Conscience' and as with most people,
doesn't like to be reminded to do the right thing all the time.

He used the word 'hate' himself for the hospitality hologram...but that one was also explicitly said to be one that doesn't see the light of day all that often, so fair point.

Heh ...
What if Raffi programmed them all?
She and Rios have supposedly been friends for a long time.
That would fit right in with her personality.

 I daresay we'll learn more as we go along, and you probably are right that Rios has done a lot of re-programming to the holos. Right now, though, it's more amusing for me to imagine some guy at the shipyard having fun programming them all, and then Rios coming along and acquiring the ship, liking the idea of a hologram crew, deciding he couldn't deal with the skins they came in and telling the computer to use him as the face of the hologram instead...only to find that the programme simply slaps his general likeness over not only the personality but pre-programmed image of the various holos, and then just throwing his hands up in despair and living with it thereafter.
