Spoilers Santiago Cabrera as Captain Cristóbal "Chris" Rios

Emmet doesn’t really seem to give a damn about much, so I can imagine Rios bonding with him more than the other holograms, who all seem to be more earnest or emotional.

Rios is one of the characters (besides Jean-Luc) who makes me watch this show - Narek is just....

... Soji's dubious lover...

Rios seems to appeal to women...... quite obviously.....;)

Um... not just women

I'm definitely having a lot of feelings about Rios and all those holograms that look like him.

Definitely my favourite character so far. He’s honestly the kind of male character I’ve been wanting to see in Trek for over 20 years. Looking forward to peeling back some layers, and really getting to find out more about him.

I’m already preparing myself for his death, though, with his holograms still being around afterwards :D

Part of me kind of wishes they'd just bitten the bullet and brought back the OUTRAGEOUS Okona. ;)

Rios is more exciting than Okona ever was. And I certainly don't want to see any Okona holograms. But another Rios hologram - The Emergency Pleasure Hologram? I'm in for it. Let's order one of Quark's holo suites......:D

I would have been okay with him as the ship captain. But all these "emergency" holograms are really putting me off. It feels like they had nothing in mind other than to give Cabrera a chance to show off various accents, sort of like Tom Cavanaugh playing Eobard Thawne and numerous versions of Harrison Wells in The Flash. Let's be honest. Holograms aren't the best way to do any of the stuff he has them doing. They take a lot of power and processing power. Robots would make much more sense, but I guess they don't want to be accused of copying SW's obsession with droids. The EMH might make sense as people don't like being confronted by robots when they're injured, but a non-humanoid drone would be so much more effective at ship repair and maintenance, as the ship wouldn't care about bedside manner. And what was Emmett supposed to be other than completely useless and contrarian?

At first, I thought they were treading dangerously close to “Han Solo” territory, but he seems to be developing ok. (Not see. The last episode yet.)

I love the reason why the ENH has an Irish accent: a tribute to the 'navvies' (navigational engineers), Irish immigrants to the US who were brought over to work on the railroads.

Gordon Lightfoot can explain it better than I can. ;)

Emmet was tactical and security - someone to do the shooting while Rios himself handled the flying. One man can't do everything all at once, after all. Droids would fall under the synth ban, I guess so holograms it is!

...I'm wondering now if Rios might prefer droids, or if they would be a bit too much like having 'people' on his crew. I think he likes the holo crew because a) they don't need to be paid, and b) he can just switch them off when he doesn't need them.

Except Emmet fired just a couple of shots then sat back, interlaced his fingers behind his head and basically said, "Meh. We're gonna die." That's pretty damn useless for a tactical officer. Besides, why do you need a hologram anyway? If you're going to let the computer handle the tactical duties, then let it handle the tactical duties. It's already directly connected to all of the ship's systems. Having fake fingers working a control console is slow and inefficient.

And how is having an AI on the ship as a hologram any different from having an AI as an android? If the hologram isn't illegal, then the android wouldn't be. It's a different physical manifestation, but the computer driving the thought processes is the same. A rogue Trek hologram can shoot you dead as easily as a rogue synth. Ask anyone who's ever been trapped in a malfunctioning holodeck. As for your other rationalizations, robots don't need to be paid and can be turned off when you don't need them.

because an interface with human appearance is easier to scream at if the AI does something you don't want it to. It's a psychological issue

Or you could, you know, program something that won't get you killed when you go into combat. If Seven hadn't shown up, they would have been toast in a few more seconds. Screaming at a hologram wouldn't change that.
