Sorry, but I'm gonna take the word over the writers who were actually there, dealing with Gene and his notes over some random blogger. A cursory look at that article reveals some seriously frivolous examples the author is blowing up to be far more significant than they were.

How about checking out these interview --

http://blog.trekcore.com/2013/05/exclusive-ron-moore-ira-steven-behr-interview-part-ii/

Where Ira Behr and Ronald Moore cite Gene's complains about "family" and "captain's holiday", specifically about how Gene hated "Family" in large part due to the fact that he thought "brothers wouldn't argue" in the future or how Ira Behr's original pitch for "Captain's Holiday" was Picard seeing a holodeck version of him in the future living a boring life, but Gene insisted "Picard would never, ever worry about growing old."

Yes, Gene's restrictions were very, very real and the actual writers were hamstrung many times -- or were able to just ignore Gene's wishes for various reasons.

Sorry, but your blogger's article is nonsense and he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Sorry, but I feel like you didn’t actually read the article because you’re just repeating the same old quotes while not paying attention to what was actually on screen while Gene was running things. We know Moore and Behr were particularly unhappy with the universe they were writing in. Moore started he want more blood and guts and militarism and never understood the concept of having families on a generation ship. Behr sincerely believed utopia couldn’t exist without a neo-conservative backend and had a near seizure at the idea that Gene wanted homosexual romance visible on Risa in “Chaos on the Bridge”. Maurice Hurley contradicts himself in the same documentary about what he and Gene wanted on the show. Yeah, I don’t trust their take on Gene. I trust what’s in Gene’s own writing and what he traditionally strove for in his character interactions.

Moore got his blood and guts but never got his 7 seasons :-)

What was with Geordie laForge wearing that visor of his?
I assume you do know the difference between a device that lets a blind man see, and a device that only dims light when it's too bright

that's exactly where you lost me - i have but one question:

hä?
i'd really like to size up that hä? (hä is a bavarian question word expressing utter disbelieve & shock about some statement)
Bavarian expressions are the best. Hoiddauf, greizdeifi, spinnst jetz ganz? XD

Someone here (maybe) said that Picard looked surprised to see the phaser there, but when I watched it again, that wasn't so. His look was more like, "There it is, right where I put it!"
He's been looking for it for years! XD
But I think there's no phaser there, they're all disruptor pistols.

I know that not every member of a race of people is going to have ideal physical characteristics and that I shouldn't expect that of each and every one of them.
