Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

A lot of complaints are that Picard looks and feels too contemporary. Down to the apartments. Well, I have a little something to counter with. I'm re-watching "Pathfinder" (VOY). It was one of the few episodes I watched after I stopped watching initially.

The mock-outraged will be disappointed to know that Barclay's apartment looks very "contemporary". I thought so at the end of 1999 and I think so at the beginning of 2020. But even though it looks contemporary, it doesn't mean I think it looks dated. I'm not thinking "This is so Y2K!" The interiors of a lot of apartment buildings haven't changed that much since the 1800s and they're probably not going to.
Star Trek: everything old is new again.

As an additional thought, I may paint something in the style of Van Gogh or write something in the style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but it doesn't make that work theirs.

That's the sort of thing that only matters to people who are investors, IMO. A good post-impressionist piece of art is one I like, not dependent on who drew it. A good Sherlock Holmes story is one i like, not only one that is by Doyle (say Mr. Holmes or Murder by Decree).

I made this thread so we could have a place to discuss things we don't think require their own thread, I'll start with this

While Del Arco can't post a picture of him in the full Borg makeup yet, he did post a video of them creating cast of his upper body used to create the makeup.

Apparently transforming into a Borg means transforming into every species the Borg have assimilated along the way!

Rios actor not signed for season 2? Anyone else hear this news?
No ....
Is this another "Janeway In Episode 3" BS kinda thing?

I'd start being a lot more particular about the 'RUMORS' one hears out there and decides to consider as factual.

If it isn't put out by CBS, I'd take it with a Truckload of Salt before actually considering it as even being slightly real.

I do hope this isn't an attempt to create an "electronic paper trail" to spread chit like this around.

"OOoooooo ..., I saw it on the Trek BBS. ... It must be correct"

It's interesting that they gave Picard an outfit that makes him look like some colonial governor... (in terms of sub-text not that I think he is a colonial governor).

No doubt the Midnight Edgers will use this rumour as evidence of 'fighting on the set' and that santiago cabrera refuses to be second fiddle to Sir Patrick, and is negotiating hard to get first billing or some bullshit.

0:06 Would you pine your sword to my quest?
I bet Picard is talking with Elnor (who is shown swords training seconds later).

I'm not saying newer material by different artists can't be downright spectacular, I love what they did with the TOS characters in the Abrams movies, but they are new versions of the characters. Just like Mount, Peck, Romijn and these writers and directors and artists aren't the ones who put Star Trek on our screen in 1966. These are new versions of the characters driven by wholly different personalities.

The only difference is I'm not treating them like those personal heroes from long ago, I want them to capture my imagination in their own right. I want them to make the characters their own, not just try to act like their counterparts from fifty-plus years ago, trying to feed fandoms inability to let go of the past. I want to be excited by where these people want to take me today, not where I've already been for the last 48 years.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

It definitely does because I'm more excited for Pike and Spock and them now than before.
