The idea of it being rejected because they were "enraged" by similarities to The Orville sounds so ridiculous. The fact that they also call the Prime-timeline the canon timeline also leads me to doubt it. We'll see, but I wouldn't place any stock in that without some actual evidence.

This forum is for provided for discussion of a particular subset of Star Trek movies, and—unless the political side topic has some direct relevance to the Trek film / character / story under discussion (Trump and Bernie most assuredly do not)—I'd like to keep it that way.

There’s something special about seeing Trek in a cinema, and it does have the potential to reach a broader audience.

The gap has certainly narrowed in terms of presentation, though.

To this day I personally know people whose exposure to Trek comes from watching the 13 movies, some who even consider them selves fans of those movies, but they've never watched much TV Trek at all. In terms of international markets also, Movie Trek has a bigger cache than TV Trek. It's probably been seen by more people on the whole than have ever sat down to watch the shows.

Aside from the market share, it's also just a shame to lose the lineage. Trek started on TV, but has had a movie franchise for 37 years. For 15 of those years, the movies were proudly co-existing with the TV show. I'd consider it a pity if Trek is now something which is either on TV or in movie theaters, but not both.

I don't want movie trek to die. As much as I love the series, I tend to have only watched them all the once. I cherish the discs I have of the movies however and have rewatched them for decades.

Same. Even though the line is blurred with modern television being so cinematic, I still get more excited about a movie than a TV series. It seems more like an event. I also kind of like the idea of the TV Trek continuing in the prime timeline, and the movies continuing in the Kelvin timeline. That way the movies are complete unrestrained by canon.
