It looks bulky on Stewart but that may be done intentionally. Sir Patrick may not wish to have to wear a tight one like on TNG.
They're using Starfleet uniforms to tell us the passage of time, without having to resort to onscreen subtitles or expensive de-aging. This is a show that features dream sequences, faulty memories, and third-person flashbacks. The TNG uniforms show us the idealized past, aboard the Enterprise-D. The movie-era uniforms show us the period leading up to Data's death, when Data and Picard's relationship was closest. The 2380s feature a new design, during the period leading up to the Romulus disaster and Picard's resignation. The 2390s features a new design, unfamiliar to Picard, of a Starfleet foreign to his ideals and place in the universe.
Ramdha (the ex-borg sitting with Soji) is apparently an important recurring character, because IMDB has her not only in the third episode, but the fourth, the eighth, and the tenth.
I think, based only on that picture, that I like those more than the 2390's ones in the rest of the series. Just because they're a little different and don't look so cheap around the neck. But we shall see on Thursday night!
That pic makes it almost seem like she is some kind of Fortuneteller using the cards to read Sonji's future. Though she may just be playing some kind of future Solitaire.
Well said. The only thing I would say, from that perspective, is that I would have thought they'd have swapped the "post-Nemesis" and "present day" uniforms from that perspective. The present uniforms are fairly similar to the DS9/VOY uniforms (which Picard wore in Generations), whereas the 2380s ones are much more radically different.
My assumption is that they don't plan on showing present (2390s) Starfleet much, beyond these first couple of episodes, but do plan on a healthy amount of flashbacks to the 2380s. So, the better-designed 2380s uniform will be used more often going forward, as Picard is dealing with events on the periphery of Starfleet and the Federation, but still continually flashing back and daydreaming (thanks, Irumodic Syndrome!).
I'm super-curious about the card game shown in the trailer. I mistakenly thought in might be Klin Zha, but I forgot that was a board game, not a card game. Somebody on Twitter suggested it might be fortune-telling cards, which would be extra cool, but doubtful.
I suggested the Fortunetelling thing up-thread. Might be a weird kind of Reverse Mahjong. If it is an EMH it's probably a Mk-X by now.
I think that is more likely. What with synths being banned and all. I suspect self aware holograms are included in that (I'm sure index will have been more limited than an emh in that regards), especially coupled with the fact that Robert Picardo has been approached for season 2, I'm certain it will be explored then.
Sorry, but what are the "monster maroons"? Also, most uniforms issues are that for some reason they are too cheap to make a uniform for every character so the cast of the TNG movies was sharing uniforms with the DS9 cast and it just looked awful. Same with Data's appearance in the opening scene of STP.
