can we please get back to whether or not Starfleet is a military organization...
It is, except for when it isn't.

Hell, the news reporter interviewing Picard even describes him as one of the Federation's top military strategists. Which raises more questions about why he had no apparent involvement in the Dominion War.
Are there toilets on starships? Have we ever seen one?Great, now that we've established that money no longer exists, can we please get back to whether or not Starfleet is a military organization...and admit that it isn't.
(...or, rather, you get back to it. I'm off to green-er pasteurs hehehe)
You'd think they'd learn their lesson after leaving him out of the battle in First Contact, only to have him show up anyway and win the battle in five minutes.Starfleet still didn’t trust him after the Borg assimilation?

I remember a TNG behind the scenes special hosted by Jonathan Frakes where he pointed out the Enterprise's only bathroom on a ship schematic, somewhere in the stardrive section. Must suck for anyone stuck on the saucer during a separation.
Which apparently must be co-ed, since we've seen a man and woman exiting those doors at the same time on the show. Either that or people in the 24th century just don't give a shit about trying to hide it when they step aside for an afternoon delight.I think on the plans, there is one on the bridge, to the left of the doors that lead to the Observation Lounge.
Then what did Beverly use to purchase that bolt of fabric on Farpoint Station???Into Darkness had a mix of ground vehicles and flying ones. So far I think we've only seen flying ones in Picard, but it is 140ish years later and one universe over.
I'm really curious how that works in a world without money. TOS era had enough contradictory evidence that Orci and Kurtzman just said in a 2009 interview there is money in their Trek universe. But here it's an explicit continuation of TNG where they made it extremely clear money is a thing of the past.
Well, she’s a woman, so....Then what did Beverly use to purchase that bolt of fabric on Farpoint Station???
Yeah, some of us may not be pleased, but that is the way it is.It is absolutely, 100%, the same universe. That decision is not left up to the fans; it is up to the creators. If CBS says it is the same universe, it is the same universe.
Well, she’s a woman, so....![]()
I heard your entire second paragraph in my head, in this guys voice...It’s a new day with new writers who live in an entirely different world with different experiences than thirty or fifty years ago. It is silly to treat these shows as anything other than new interpretations of older material. Doesn’t make them good or bad, or not Trek. But they aren’t and can never be that Trek we grew with all those years ago. Or honestly, any kind of true continuation as the people who made those shows are long gone.
We live in a world where we cannot let go of the past (unless it is something actually important like the Holocaust). Corporations have seized on this to peddle their wares. Everybody from entertainment producers to car companies use it to take advantage.

The Earth Starfleet from ENT, on the other hand, was specifically said to not be military.
Peak Performance said:PICARD: Starfleet is not a military organization. Its purpose is exploration.
I agree with you. But maybe the currency model is not the same as ours. Maybe they use different kind of currency system. Like Credit system. Where you have to work for the exchange of "credit" that give you the right to get some kind of luxury. The different is that credit doesn't inflate. It also doesn't work as currency exchange. You can't exchange Earth Credit with Ferengi gold and vice versa. You can't give credit to another person, like your children for allowance. So basically credit is credit. You work, you get credit, you can use it to enjoy some luxury that offered by Earth Service provider.
With luxury mean that you can get food and basic need like clothes freely. You may get a standard house. Maybe like a small, cramped apartment like in Hongkong. But if you want a castle like in Picard, or a luxurious mansion like Riker's, then you have to provide enough credit for it. Maybe explore strange new world, fight a war for Federation, etc can give you more credit than ordinary people who work as a clerk. You also have to use credit to enjoy Picard luxurious and tasty Wine, although the service providers like Picard Vineyard doesn't get anything from you. They get their own credit from Federation Government for their service. And of course, you need to spend credit to enjoy a luxurious entertainment in a holodeck. This way Federation can prevent you from becoming a Hikikomori person who spend his entire life in a holodeck.
Picard said Starfleet wasn't the military in "Peak Performance"...
