Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Man I am loving this show so far and even signed up for CBS all access, which I never thought I would do.

Discovery pilot episode: 7,1 IMDB score

Picard pilot episode: 8,9 IMDB score

You can tell a diffrence already, overall score:

Don’t get me wrong, Picard had probably the strongest first hour of any Trek show thus far, but comparing against Discovery’s online scoring is rather pointless when there’s been active campaigns online to sink it’s ratings etc.

Yup.

For the people complaining about the dream sequence: have you ever actually had a dream before? I have dreams about the house I grew up in all the time, but the details are never exactly right. How is this any different?

If this is inspired by me... I wasn't really complaining so much as just... I dunno... Quibbling?

In sequence itself between Data and Picard is just fine, though, how does a pupil dilate "ostentatiously?" I mean, a person cannot dilate their own pupil by action (though Data likely could) but how does one dilate in an ostentatious manner? It'd make more sense if in an ostentatious manner Data arched an eyebrow or widened his eyes/eye socket ostentatiously in order to give off a deceptive "tell." But for me it's kind of fun to point out oddities like the completely wrong windows being lit on the ship and not even the right number of them as we fly into the ship.... and then it really is a question of why "we" are flying outside the ship and into windows... In a dream? Normally in movies/TV we experience dreams through the perspective of the dreamer and don't go off on our own for beauty passes.

But, from me, it's all in good fun. If you want me to get dirty I could... Though nothing in this episode really struck me as a terrible violation of anything else. Thought he Stargazer model in Picard's vault should have been yellow like the one in his Ready Room on the -D, otherwise where did this model come from? Why just have a model of his old ship and Captain's Yacht in this room but the painting is stored elsewhere and has be transported in (or is stored as energy/molecular data elsewhere and is "replicated" in.)

If you really want to get me to get dirty? I will...

I can't believe Picard dis-respected the memory of his dead brother by having a replicator installed in the house. There!

It looks like he kicked Marie out, I think that is far more disrespectful!

Is there any indication she survived the fire and just wasn't mentioned when Picard talks about it? I mean, it'd be odd to NOT mention her, but... It's possible she simply moved off the property and somewhere else following the death of her husband and son, likely couldn't live there with the painful memories. But Robert was against there being a replicator in the house! Why did you have to get one Picard?! Make your own damn decaf-tea!

I sometimes like for reality to set in to the Trek universe for a few minutes. Marie and Jean-Luc have a bitter court battle for control of Chateau Picard. After he wins, we see her sitting on the side of the road with her bags.

Wasn't it Marie that wrote Picard the letter telling him about the fire?

We're never told, he just gets a message while in the holodeck in Generations and then sours over it for the rest of the movie, finally breaking down with Troi in a scene and simply says Robert and Rene had burned to death in a fire. He doesn't mention his SiL, which would be an odd omission, but unless there's something in a novel or some nearly unreadable bit of text on what we may see of the message he reads on the computer in the holodeck arch, we're never told if she survived the fire or not.

It's likely she did since she's not mentioned as Picard breaks down over the death of Robert and Rene.

Hmm...my memory and Memory Alpha says different

Not to mention that giving an overall rating to a show after a single episode is inherently silly.
