Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

EG. If i want to freely discuss ep.1's ....
Nebula in the shape of the twins ring necklace....
PIC-S1E1-378.jpg
Although I can't go in the ep.1 discussion thread, cause it contains spoilers for ep.2 and .3
And I don't know if it's allowed here?

There shouldn't be any spoilers for eps 2 and 3 in the ep 1 thread, unless they're wrapped in a spoiler tag. I know I'd be pissed if that's not the case.

Just saw the first episode on Amazon Prime. I have to say: modern TV has become faster and more cinematic. I miss good old Trek on TV. You have to be an Android to follow the fast combat scenes. Old DS9 changeling stunts and battle scenes in space seem to be obsolete......

I’m not sure you could get anything slower than Picard, the pacing reminded me of TNG.

Except Troi told him about the program :nyah:
^^^^
You mean the practical joke program created by Geordi and Data for a laugh...especially after Counselor Troi bought it hook line and sinker? I'm sure they were laughing their asses off (well Geordi was anyway) once it got back that she ran it for Riker (who probably failed Federation history at school anyway).:rommie::nyah:;)

I liked the slow pacing. DSC moves too damn fast most of the time and the short attention spans of too many modern viewers demand constant visual stimulation or else you'll lose them to another show or program. I prefer my Trek to take breathers and not be running at breakneck speed.

Like I said elsewhere, both work for me. Depends on the mood I'm in.

Question about the thread Picard 1x1, "Remembrance" ????
I haven't wanted to open it until I saw the episode my self, not wanting spoilers.
Now that I've seen ep 1 I want to read the discussion.
However the thread opens with this warning:

"WARNING: This thread may contain early spoilers from posters who've attended premieres. If you haven't seen the episode yet and don't wanna be spoiled, GET OUTTA HERE!"

To anyone who has been reading it...
Are people disusing (spoiling) the next two episodes (which were also shown at the premier) in there?
Thanks!

Yes, were a bunch of questions asked and then answered. Fortunately, the poster who had seen the first three episodes put all his responses in hidden spoiler tags. Safe to go into the thread as long as you don't start 'popping tags'. ;)
I also added to the first post a link to where post-release discussion begins (which is page 38 of the thread). Premiere discussion was done by then.

I didn't find the combat scenes notably faster than they were during Kirk's days.

I have heard the leaks about what might be coming up in this season of Picard. I really hope that they are not true; however, the leaks have been accurate for both GoT and SW, so these leaks might be true too. It would suck to see another bad season of Trek. Disappointment is becoming a norm for me, with the franchises I grew up with - Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Star Wars.

Disappointment is easy where it comes to series that we adored growing up with. Luckily, we're in an age where there are more options than every before. I've watched a number of brilliant series this past decade. Doesn't matter that they aren't childhood favorites as I'm no longer a child.

I have branched out into other franchises. I like the Umbrella Academy, the Witcher series, and Orville. I have not watched much of Expanse, which is said to be fantastic with terrific writing. I have qualms about spending money on a show, on a per episode basis, when my pockets are empty.

I like that TV is cinematic now - we don't need any more Trek movies, we get 10 h epics now that are streamable so you can watch them wherever and pause and rewind, etc.
And the fight scenes were so nicely brief and on point! No more wild motion-blur fast-cut punching where you see nothing anymore beyond cuts and blurs... concise and visible action!

So, if these leaks are true the first season will become bad? I really hope that this is not true

So... Picard's dream had establishing shots of space and a beauty pass of the ship with inconsistent lighting of the ship's windows from how they "really" were? (Only 3 of 10-Forward's windows were seen as lit as we "enter" them.)

ETA: As I read through the thread since the "premiere" the other night...

Mallrats is better than Amy.

Prove me wrong.

Amy...didn't age well...like...at all

I haven't watched Amy for a long time, well Mallrats either but Amy has been longer. I can't see Amy having aged well, but Mallrats would be my more favorite of the two. I don't think it would've aged well either but mostly because the references and stuff in it now are 20+ years behind us which is insane. I mean, to watch it today and be like, "Oh yeah! Magic Eye posters! I remember those stupid ass things and how I couldn't see it and found out decades later it's impossible for me to be able to see it no matter how much I try because of the type of eye condition I have."

Eh. It was a dream sequence. I'm just glad that everything else about the Enterprise-D looked right and she didn't suddenly have potato slicer nacelle pylons.

Yeah but it being a "dream sequence" makes it all make even LESS sense. From Picard's perspective in the dream why would only three of the windows be lit? In the dream was he flying outside the ship, seeing the three lit windows and himself playing cards, and then he got to inhabit his own body and continue on?

I'm getting silly and nitpicky and it's all in good fun. The Ent-D did look fairly right for the style of lighting and stuff that was going on, there's an YT duo that talks about Trek Ships a lot and they had a fairly long video the other day on this single shot of the ship and they were talking about some of the "changes" made to it which seemed centered around the deflector dish shape being different the color/shine on the hull or whatever. (I didn't watch all of it, it was fairly long and as much as like the guys one of them gets kind o petty at times beyond even where I'd go.) A lot of stuff that could be chalked up to just the "camera angle", the way the lighting works in this shows, etc.

The problem for me was more we didn't get to see much of it, or for long, and that well it was "off" or not done right enough for me to be giddy over seeing the ship. The Galaxy is my favorite ship and to see her and not squee means you've failed. I think there's only one or two shots of the ship used in the series itself where I don't like the look of her and one is just due to the angle (it's not a pretty angle. It's sort of like... That episode of Seinfeld where he's disappointed in his girlfriend walking around naked because sometimes she'll be in a position where it's just not attractive. "Naked hair brushing, fine. Naked crouching... Not fine."

For the Ent-D that low-angle fly-by shot (used at the end of the "Space the final frontier...." segment of the opening credits just before she "passes" and we get the behind 3/4 angle shot before it jumps to warp) is "naked crouching" but it transitions to "naked hair brushing" before going to warp and pretty much every other look of that ship is "naked hair brushing."

I get that the model was difficult to film and use but, dammit, they shouldn't have destroyed it (the ship) just to make this new ship that was "easier to film" and stuff, a ship that's pretty much all "naked crouching." The Ent-D was majestic and glorious, the ship of a future we need. The Ent-E is a skinny guy in a speedo with a deep nasolabial trough with a big pimple and the end of his nose.

None of the leaks that have come out of the new Star Trek have ever been true.
