    Pros

    - They didn't ruin Picard's character in the first episode. He still felt like Picard to me.
    - Show looks nice which I guess should be expected
    - I liked the callbacks to old characters and moments from TNG (which I won't name because... spoilers. YAY NOSTALGIA.)

    Cons

    - Not going to go into spoilers but I feel like the plot of this show is going to be so bizarre and off the wall that it will end up making no sense at all. The ending left me with a lot of questions which I don't know if they'll be able to answer in a way that makes any sense.

You should probably put that in the episode thread.

The premiere just flew by quickly. It felt like 15 minutes instead of 45.

He is very entertaining but I find his Discovery reviews less so.

My point is he's not a "hater." There's a lot he doesn't like about Discovery, but he's pretty measured in his criticisms. I've never heard him go off on an extended tirade regarding it like he does in his Enterprise reviews - or even many of his Voyager reviews.

I don't think I ever said he was a hater. I just stated that I don't enjoy reviews of Discovery any more, or Trek in general at times. Chuck is self-described as being an asshole but a fair asshole. And he is completely fair in his reviews. However, I just don't find it as enjoyable. Has nothing to do with haters or not and everything to do with what I find entertaining.

    Mileage and all that jazz.

    The first impression--it is awesome!

It felt relevant to the humanitarian crisis we face today, and our xenophobic instincts. While Picard is older, jaded, and more sentimental, he is still Jean-Luc. Hopes dashed turn men cynical. He is a dreamer...imaginatively. And, the universe disappoints him, so I wonder if he could ever do something "unethical" to satisfy his need for revenge on his bitter, old age? His idealism lives, and that would make him guilty, but between resignation and Dahj, there is room to be apathetic or angry. And his hope returning would make him guilt-ridden, if it were to come to light.

If that happened and Maddox turned, as I suspect, then it would mean Mr. Lecturer of Starfleet principles gets lectured by Maddox--"See? You are no different than me. I turned against the Federation, but you did x, y, and z, so you are no different."Maddox is a more extreme version of Picard, willing to go further than Picard would allow, but the man had no control over "The Borg Assimilation." He takes responsibility for it. If, after all those lectures he plays some small role in what the Romulans are doing, it would make this interesting. Profoundly. He would hesitate. And, I want him to hesitate, again. If only to drive the point home of what Data did, that he saved the Enterprise when Picard froze, and that is why he follows Jean-Luc, in his dreams. He should play a role, somehow, and Maddox knows. Apathy. Or knowing about something, and ignoring a warning sign, as he walks out of Starfleet.

Memory-Alpha is saying that the show takes place in 2397, because of the '10 year anniversary' line about the supernova.

So based off how STO did their rank pips, this women is a Rear Admiral

2397 makes sense, because we know that Picard was born in 2305, and he's canonically 92 here.
