I was watching it, I was just 20 minutes in at the time.

Poor Ethan Philips, can’t stop getting stranded with humans far from Earth.

Well, I had fun, and s few good laughs. It's only a half-hour show, so the wife and I can watch it during Monday dinner without intruding on our evening viewing.

Fun and amusing. Hugh Laurie is easily the highlight of the show, but everyone else certainly shows promise aside from the nagging passengers, though I guess they serve a purpose anyway. Certainly no laugh out loud high-larious moments, but the episode made me smile a and chuckle enough times that I'm willing to stick with it for now.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the first episode too. Saved me a crapload of typing. QFT ;) :nyah:

I think by the end of the season my opinion of this show will depend on how the relationship between the crew and the passengers progresses. Whether they address the issue that these affluent passengers will probably expect that the crew will be doting on them for three years, even though they only signed up to do that for eight weeks. And whether the dynamics change and the affluent passengers learn they will have to take on some of the maintenance work and become equals with the crew.

One thing I have a problem with is equal and opposite reactions. Unless whatever they're doing for gravity somehow produces thrust that doesn't push in the opposite direction.

And if they really can produce thrust using the artificial gravity, the scientists at home should be able to find a way to use that to adjust their route so it's not as good as the original plan to use Titan's gravity but better than 3 years. Whatever physics they use to push passengers against the ground, use it to push the ship!

Neelix is starring in this series? :D Holy crap, what a co-incidence. I guess he's gonna try to become the ship's Ambassador now :guffaw:

I thought it was ok. I'll probably check another one out to see if it gets any funnier.

Amusing rather than laugh-out-loud funny. I think this episode was buoyed by the enthusiasm and charisma of the great cast. Looking forward to Iannucci and the rest of the writing team making the most of the premise.

I just watched it. Sadly I found it cringeably unfunny, embarrassingly so. And some of the cast were dire.

Shame, I quite liked the premise.

I agree. The first ep was pretty dire. Like the writers were locked in a hotel room with only reruns of the Love Boat, a vhs of Wall-E a kilo of cocaine and a case of jack Daniels and told they had 72 hours to come up with a TV show. No sorry, that would have probably produced at least a joke that would have made me laugh. I'll give it one more episode to them to turn it around. Even the first eps of Pandor and The Orville and TNG were better than this, and they were not by any measure, good. It might have been better than the first ep of Starlost, but its been a while since i've seen it, so I'm not sure.

Episode 2 makes me pessimistic for the series. There needs to be at least one likable character so it’s not just “Everyone is incompetent and obnoxious” jokes.

To each their own, I'm loving it so far. I find it more endearing than the start of Veep where, well, everyone all came of as incompetent and obnoxious. I like Ryan, Billie, Iris, and Rav so far and that's good enough as a starting point for me.

Yeah, after last night's episode, I'm really on the fence with this show. Could go either way at this point. I'm going to give it one more episode to tip the balance. Lot of premise (and promise), but falling way, way short in the writing department.

Not to say a show can’t be good without likable characters, but it has to be funnier than this to be good without likable characters.

You knew the moment they said the caskets were light enough to not get caught in orbit, that they would end up getting caught in orbit. Every joke is predictable. And it’s okay if they don’t get all the science right, it’s a comedy, but if you’re going to explain things with science at least get it somewhere in the ballpark.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Veep either, but at least Veep was making some kind of intelligent satirical point. This is just “Hey look at all the awful people screw things up by behaving awfully!”

I think you mean DVD, Wall-E came out long after VHSs stopped being a thing.
