Yes, AMT/Ertl model kit No. 6619 was released in 1988, about a year after the originals were built.

It looks like there is a bit of a different in how the neck connects to the secondary hull.

Wonder if this could be another Galaxy chasing Picard and Company. Possible he goes aboard to sabotage its pursuit?

I don't think so. It would be confusing for some people, because they think it is the Big E. The neck looks just fine. It is the angle. :)

Why would it be confusing? It is a trailer.

But why of all shipclasses should they choose a Galaxy class cruiser when it is not the Enterprise-D.

Nostalgia. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia for the current folks involved. It is the same reason we are getting the 'D' instead of the 'E', even though Picard ended up being in command of the latter for a longer period of time. The audience is far more familiar with the 'D'.

A few who have seen the first three episodes have stated this is from a scene in the first episode and definitely the enterprise d.

Why not? It wasn't the only Galaxy-class ship in service.

I'm a big fan of nostalgia, of course and yes, people associate Picard with the D and not the E, because the former was far more present on screen than the E. 178 episodes and one film against three films. But, mate.. we will see. Maybe you are right. :)

Man, seeing her rendered like this makes it such a shame she was destroyed in such stupid fashion. She looks so good here!

Better than E-E, better than ever. I do hope we see another Galaxy, with Riker in command, come save the day at some point.

You are quite right and nostalgia is stupid.

I think nostalgia's inverted with Picard. Unlike The X-Files which basically took characters we know and put them back into the situation we remember, Picard is taking a character we know and saying 20 years have passed, everything's different, this is where he is now, and there's no going back to the way things were. We see the Enterprise-D, but it's something he can never go back to. He dreams about Data, but he's someone who's never coming back. He goes to Starfleet and they tell him to go home.

Of course, we then get nostalgia of yet another sort: Picard, the forgotten old fart, remembers all the cool stuff. So we again meet things we had completely forgotten about, like Bruce Maddox...

Where Picard digs up his team of rogues is more of the same, only from yet another angle, as we never actually knew of these past connections of his.
