An ok episode but the only thing that makes me cringe is at one point the women on the planet are hunting for Kirk and his landing party when they were hiding in the urn and couldn't find them. Then when Uhura comes down and demands to know where they are the women on the planet then ask their little computer if it could show them where the captain and his party were.

Umm, why didn't you just do that when you were hunting for them in the first place

One thing I liked is Uhura got to command the Enterprise for once.

TNG - Justice.

Oh why oh why oh why... Just... why... By now the cast clearly has a rapport as well as knowing the ins and outs of their roles. As a reward they're subjected with... such (ahem, can't say it here) so-called "scripts" that are just so (bzzt, can't say it here) on every last conceivable level. You know it won't be good when they say "No rules we know of, looks like a great place for kids... oh they all fornicate at the drop of a hat. Any hat..." Then they get down to the planet and even shows like "Three's Company" would blush in embarrassment over some of that dialogue. The cavalier handling of the Prime Directive at the end managed to be even more clunky than the planet of the blonde wigs boinking... TNG's storylines would soon improve, but this one is such barrel scrapings it's a phenomenon in of itself that the show didn't get canceled by this point.

And Wesley didn't even get the most cringey material, and who wouldn't have trouble trying to recite clunky laughfests such as "I'm with Starfleet. We don't lie."

Check that: 1/10 -- See, people jogging around a sewage treatment plant and there's clearly water on all the tiles yet none of the joggers slips and breaks x number of bones... that's a phenomenon too.

Maybe 1.25/10 - At least the episode wasn't ageist. There's at least one 50-something gray-haired Edo jogging around, or they ran out of blonde wigs and couldn't afford blonde #53 hair dye for a mop. Maybe all the other icky old Edo slipped on the wet tiles when they were in an off-limits zone that was being mediated, which made the mediators' lives easier upon hearing chorus after chorus of "I've fallen and I can't get up!"...

Maybe 1.5/10 - the episode is sorta trying to show an idyllic place where nobody commits a crime and any crime has one penalty - enough to scare anyone preemptively - but it's all so superficial and handled poorly. Then they do the impossible and outdo all that by showing something so insignificant to demonstrate the binary nature of the law that any attempt to induce a positive audience reaction is only met with laughter that's no less unintentional.

Yeah, just not a good episode. I'll watch it when I'm doing a TNG series rewatch (because I'm crazy like that ). But it's bad on many levels. "I'm with Starfleet. We Don't Lie" still makes me roll my eyes.

And I'm not entirely sure how the Prime Directive causes such a major issue. This is an advanced society to begin with. How does not letting them execute Wesley interfere with their society exactly? I can't imagine Starfleet would condone allowing a civilian to be executed for an accident such as that. I think it was just an effort to create some drama in a pretty poorly written episode, but I question it everytime.

But if I were Picard I would have just said to the Edo, "Take him, please. You'd be doing all of us a huge favor" Ok I'm just kidding

"A Fistful Of Datas" : I love the confidence with which Deanna says that the program is going to end if they solve the problem. I mean the program is completely broken, characters are all replaced with Data's image and abilities, the safeties are off but yeah, if we end it, it will stop automatically.
Apparently Barclay's holodeck fantasies include patronizing old west style cathouses.

At least she has an expression; I'm presuming this is over Picard flagrantly dismissing their laws to hightail Wes back up to the ship. The other four look like expressionless plastic dolls.

Star Trek: Generations

Good: Great Kirk moment rescuing the Enterprise-B.
Bad: TOS characters and TNG technobable feels wrong.

Good: The new Enterprise-D lighting. Works in some spots.
Bad: The new Enterprise-D lighting. Doesn't work in others.

Good: Picard has to deal with tragedy. Not "good", but you know what I mean.
Bad: Picard should put on a better front when he's around the crew.

Good: Data's lines in Ten Forward about the drink.
Bad: Data's emotion chip becomes super annoying after that.

In the anticipation and excitement for Star Trek: Picard, I just had a thought while watching the opening: a bottle of Chateau Picard should've been what christened the Enterprise-B. Then I thought to myself, "no", maybe that's a bit too much.

I do like the cinematography. Fresh off of watching all of TNG, I can say they made everything look more cinematic in this film.

I'm only part-way through the film. I stopped it at a really annoying bit with Data to type this post. He's down at the Observatory with Geordi. No, Data. The gorilla suit joke's not that funny. Stop laughing. Stop talking too. I feel so bad for Geordi.

I know I'm in the minority but I kind of liked seeing Scotty spew out a little technobabble. TNG was always the smarty pants show and the original series the less advanced, less sophisticated one (I know I'm oversimplifying a bit).

Scotty talking a little techno was basically saying, hey TNG crew, we're just as smart as you--we just don't like to show off as much.

Generations was ok. I watched it just prior to Christmas. It's my 3rd favorite TNG movie and middle of the pack for me. I always liked the idea of the Nexus. I like strange and unusual phenomena. I too also liked Kirk's first 'death' on the Enterprise-B. Saving the Enterprise is how I always figured he'd go down. He got a 2nd chance and while I never took issue with the fact of him dying while saving people, and a world, he never knew I wasn't to crazy about the method they chose. I don't know, with Captain Kirk I just figured he'd go out literally fighting to the last punch or something. The way he died seemed so anti-climatic. The first 'death' though I thought they got right.

Malcolm McDowell was good as Soran. He's pretty good at playing obsessive, psychotic types.

And as saddened as I was at the destruction of the Enterprise, it was filmed well. Funny, in Encounter at Farpoint I hated the D. But as the show went on it grew on me and I was saddened to see it's demise.

I also remember when I saw Generations at the theater it felt a bit surreal. They were using the same sets as the TV show (with some enhancements here and there) and the same uniforms from TNG and DS9, and the ship itself was the same of course. Seeing it on widescreen in a movie theater just felt, well, surreal.

One thing I was happy we have novels for is they 'rehabilitated' the captain of the Enterprise-B. In the movie he wasn't portrayed in a great light. But the novelization first fleshes his character more and the reasons why the ship was sent in the condition it was...and then the Lost Era novels make him a worthy captain of the Enterprise. The movie by itself sadly did not leave a good first impression.

I have to add that Macolm McDowell is good as Soran. But my favorite role of his will always be as Alex in A Clockwork Orange. It's disturbing how much older he looks in Generations than in A Clockwork Orange.

Q and the Grey - I really wished we had seen the Female Q again. Suzie Plakson is badass and yes this episode was silly but it has some of my favorite quotes in the franchise.

Macrocosm - People have called this Voyager does Die Hard. Watching it tonight I was thinking more Aliens. You've got the main character (Janeway, Ripley) in a tanktop being all bad-ass and they are fighting Aliens, or Macro-virus's. I think it's appropriate that on the anniversary of Voyager, the episode I finish the night on features Captain Kathryn Janeway.

I think you mean Starship Mine. Enemy Mine is a movie and I think an episode of Enterprise was based on it.
