Purposefully misleading douchebags.
We have a local business here called Johnny's Crazy Deals. Opened in 2018, as I recall (pre hurricane Michael).
I went there once after it opened to see what it was all about.
I walked in, found no employees so I wasn't greeted.
Looked around and found a lot of stuff like that looks like Big Lot's had a second hand store. There, sitting in an area playing with his phone, is whom I presume was Johnny. Didn't say anything to me, didn't get up, nothing -- it's like he cared more about the phone and music than a potential costumer.
I walked around, the play was dirty, crap all over the floor (no vacuuming), a metal bar across the floor where somebody could trip over it.
Random stuff was on the shelf, and I do mean random. And used and dirty. Why? It was fairly obvious his "Crazy deals" where items from his house/people he knows/ yard sales, not even cleaned up and just put on the shelves.
I might have bought something, but the prices even for this were a little high and between the lack of caring on his part, I walked out and never returned.
As expected, the place looked empty every time I came by (there's a grocery store connected to it I go to regularly). And soon there were percentage sales on items.
Anyway, none of this is the "purposefully misleading douchebag" stuff, but just a set up to give you more insight.
So about a month or two ago I started seeing advertisements for the business "Store closing". Ads, I think a Youtube commercial playing during videos, etc. Even on the radio. "Store closing". Now, one ad said that line but had an asterix by it, but nowhere did it explain what the asterix meant.
Well, I found out last week what I meant. Guess what? A big banner flying in front of the store said "STORE CLOSING", but in small and horizontally wider letters on the bottom, where you either might ignore it or not see it from the road, it said for store remodeling.
Yes, that's right, all these ads left out one little detail -- the store was not closing.
It was all a trick to draw people in, making them think they'll get huge discounts since it was closing.
Oh, and guess what? It appears to have opened after only a few days of shutting for remodeling, so it wasn't even a big deal, furthering the obvious trick I am saying was done.
How Johnny hasn't gone out of business yet is beyond me.
