I like them. They're a great callback to the GEN/DS9 Seasons 1-5/VOY uniforms with a nod or two to the future alternate timeline uniforms. They're vastly superior to what DSC gave us in any evaluation.
Once bitten, twice shy. If I were the production team I wouldn't change anything.it's kind of an interesting turnaround from discovery where the producers wanted everything redesigned despite continuity to picard where they have retained certain things despite the fact that, in continuity, they're free to redesign anything.
i'm intrigued by the glimpses of the admiral's uniform in the trailer:

a kind of first contact/TNG hybrid with dark shoulders and pants, gray midsection, and division color collar or undershirt. it looks different enough to be interesting.
but given how textured and cool the civilian clothing is in the show, i'm a little dismayed by the DS9/voyager uniform retread that appears to be the standard duty uniform. i also do not like that the combadge is a modified AGT insignia.
this is the best description of this phenomenon, thank you.I think what we've seen is Star Trek become un-rebooted in slow-motion.
Well, if you're in the minority then I'm there with you. As much as I have enjoyed DSC there is definitely a feeling of hesitation and uncertainty that comes with it. And the backlash against Abrams Trek and then against DSC and the announcement of Section 31 doesn't appear to have gone unnoticed. Which makes them very afraid. Largely because there is a lot of money on the line that makes it a bit of a risk. And that brings fear with it.i know i'm in the minority on this one, but it just stinks of fear to me.

Fear is not the best teacher. In the long run they will become more safe, take less risks, and ultimately Trek will languish under the shadow of its own supposed greatness.Good.
It is a balancing act. When adding to an existing franchise one needs to be mindful of what the fans expect and what were the reasons people liked the original thing in the first place. Changing things willy-nilly and adding element that do not seem to belong can sour old fans and that is unwise, as ultimately the whole point of using an existing franchise instead of doing something completely new is to leverage the good will associated with said franchise.Fear is not the best teacher. Whilst the production design really doesn't rank very high on my list of Discovery criticism, they definitely lost some good will by making completely unnecessary changes.
These? What do you think of the Starfleet uniforms they made for the show?
Good.
Anyway. I'm not sold on the new uniforms. Picard's admiral uniform looked like sportswear with all those stripes and the other uniforms look baggy an ill fitting. As much as I disliked the Disco uniforms, the tailoring on them was excellent, they fit really well; these seem not to.
But I have to reserve the final judgement until I see them properly. And regardless, as this show is not about Starfleet, the uniforms are not so important anyway.
These?

Doesn't seem like a lot of effort was put into them.
Not in mine. The Disco uniforms are extremely figure-flattering (and thus disastrous on anyone who doesn't gym regularly) and IMO quite smart. They're vastly superior to what DSC gave us in any evaluation.
True proof that one can't please every fan, as I'm sure they did that deliberately to satisfy some of the more die hard amongst us, haha.
i think they're figure flattering on women, but the men look silly to me. jason isaacs looked especially uncomfortable and the guys have no ass in those trousers (sorry). that being said, at least gersha phillips' uniforms are highly stylized and detailed... these new picard uniforms look about as simple as the 90s costumes did. good for nostalgia, but costume design has moved on from that. Not in mine. The Disco uniforms are extremely figure-flattering (and thus disastrous on anyone who doesn't gym regularly) and IMO quite smart.
I don't think it was of importance to the series which is why it looks that way; I'm thinking these designs show the series maybe moving away from Starfleet.Personally, I would have preferred something different. I don't know what, but I think they could have come up with something better than a near rehash of the DS9/Voyager uniforms.
Maybe they just wanted something simple because Starfleet won't be a big focus. Maybe they just wanted something identifiable so that the audience could focus on other things. Who knows…
