    1) It certainly is. Joker ticks the boxes pretty well. Phoenix and Phillips insulting the CBM Genre also won them attention from the Academy because they like it when folks do that.
    2) Yep, it's the same reason they gave Anne Hathaway an Oscar purely for letting herself go gaunt for Les Miserables. They think nonsense like that constitutes acting.
    3) Endgame got an Oscar Nom for VFX, but the Academy's dislike for the authentic CBM movies unless really forced into acknowledging them is pretty well known by now. These are the same buffoons who thought Pixar wasn't worthy of notice for a long time too.

But then again, by your logic the MCU is on the same level as Danny Elfman and David Lynch.

Well, David Lynch is a demigod and beyond reproach.

The MCU and Danny Elfman isn't a terrible analogy, though: Started off well and then just shifted into phoning it in for a decade-plus.

No, Elfman's work is always majestic and has a dark edge to it. To say it's all the same just shows that some folks just don't bother to look past the surface (or in Elfman's case, hear passed the opening tune).

Someone who is REALLY phoning it in is Hans Zimmer.

Elfman literally recycled parts of his Batman Returns score for Spider-Man 2. He hasn't had an original idea in years.

Exactly so. Elfman is very clever in his repetitive strokes but that doesn't mean he hasn't done it.

I'm 35 years old and the idea of being excited to see Rage Against the Machine in 2020 makes my brain bleed.

Several years ago, I think it was 2014, my now ex-wife and I saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Milwaukee. We were in the fifth row. After the first or second song, a very clearly intoxicated woman in the front row screamed, "I LOVED YOU AT COACHELLA!"

Nick says, "That's great, when did we play?"

She responds, "In the morning, you started the show!"

Nick says, "Great, you're full of shit, we played at night, fuck off."

    That's my Coachella-adjacent story.

Translation: Boiling mad because Joker is earning the very kind of attention you were swearing would never happen, and of course, that bad 80s action cartoon series--AKA most of the MCU--will never earn such a distinction.

Sadness and tears, sadness and tears.

I will trust my friend, who actually composes music, over random person on the Internet. I'm funny like that :D
Indeed, and he is quite good at it too. Doesn't mean Elfman isn't.

The filmmakers knew their movie would've bombed and Phoenix ignored if not for them hijacking the character names they'd prefer they not use, therefore showing Hollywood hasn't learned a poor thing.

And thinking stuff like losing weight and overacting merits awards. Or rather, Pity Awards.

Joker only got this thanks to the MCU's hard work in enhancing the image of CBMs.

Without Black Panther's Noms last year, this never would've happened.

VFX Award Nom. But seeing how hard LOTR and GOT had to work for awards, it's not surprising. The Academy also appreciated Phillips' comments about how they were trying to make an Anti-CBM as well.

That was deliberate, his return to CBMs after Batman.

I put more credit on Burton's Batman, Nolan's Batman, and the Rami Spider-Man films than the MCU for enhancing the image. MCU road that wave as far as they could take it though.

I will ignore the rest of your paranoid ramblings, as they are either opinion or speculations neither provable nor disprovable. This one, however, is simply factually wrong, as Elfman scored both the first Spider-Man and Ang Lee's Hulk in-between his work on Batman Returns and Spider-Man 2.

Nah. MCU took it to heights never before imagined. I would rank the most important superhero movies like so:

    1) Superman TMP
    2) Batman 88
    3) X-Men
    4) Spider-Man1/2 (equally important)
    5) Iron Man
    6) Dark Knight
    7) Avengers
    8) Endgame

Endgame took comic book movies to Star Wars level of popularity, and that all started with Iron Man. Dark Knight showed that you can make a more or less serious movie from a superhero property. X-Men started modern effects heavy superhero movies. Spider-Man made them popular. Superman and Batman really started it all, though both were false starts because of awful sequels.

Burton's movies led to Batman and Robin, so that goodwill was eliminated. Just like how the Reeves movies went out with a whimper rather than a bang due to "Quest for Peace".

Nolan's ways led to the misguided approach of MOS, BvS and Suicide Squad, and even TDKR didn't come off as a good ending. So again, not the best legacy.

    Raimi's movies ended with SM3...

The MCU is the only one of its kind with its scope, scale and ambition.

And he did a good job in Spider-Man too.
