I think most people -- especially the ones who are complaining -- didn't notice either. Then someone pointed it out and that's when other people saw their opening to jump in. Tearing apart a story about two girls who are rivals but come together through tragedy will make them look like total jerks. The optics of that aren't very good. "Ick! I don't want to talk about feelings! Girls have cooties!" But canon is their bread-and-butter. "Wait a minute? STD ships in Picard! Yes!!!!! You see?! They don't care about canon! Yeah!!!! Let's get this party started! Let's rip those four seconds right apart! Let's do it!!!" That's something they can grab onto. So they did.
I believe that some people didn't notice, though I have hard time imagining how that is possible. The tugs, sure, they're awfully generic, but Magee is really distinctive looking, it really doesn't resemle any other Trek ship, and was recently featured in another Short Trek episode, so I'd imagine people would remember that. Yeah, now you're just being rude and condescending. Most people seemed to like the story itself and how it was executed. But it was very simple story and there really isn't much to talk about beyond, 'yeah, I liked it and the song worked.' And I don't think the ship talk would have become nearly as dominant if number of people wouldn't feel the need to defend this questionable if minor production design choice and belittle the people who noticed it and didn't like it.
Maybe it's time to except CBS trek is in a alternate timeline. The ships and modern day clothes that would look fine on Discovery is almost the proof. But the real kicker is people still listen to David Bowie songs instead of Classical Music. This Picard isn't our Picard. Also Soong wasn't so good with making Android bodies in this universe as well so that explains why Data doesn't look quite right. Also Vulcans in the real universe are either all bald or with a full head of hair. Balding is illogical. Jason
I thought that Tribble ep was a hoot, but I guess I was too busy enjoying the humor and performances to pay attention to exactly what kind of ship it was or to remember what it was called. Again, I understand that lots of folks really enjoy the techie side of Trek; just explaining how it's possible to watch an episode or movie without really making note of ship classifications and designs and such. For what it's worth, I seldom notice what kind of car James Bond is driving either.

I remember those days. Why wouldn't the shuttle bus driver not wait? She was clearly on the grounds. Even my old drivers would wait for stragglers. Sheesh!
Unless the ships were using holographic camouflage of some kind on the hull to help with their getting close enough to the shipyards to attack. Once there they simply could have turned it off. (or shifted the power to the weapons and shields?)
I think this ship business is getting slightly out of hand. But, it wouldn't be a Star Trek bulletin board if we didn't tear this first glimpse of the 24th Century after 18 or so years to shreds. Say what you want, but it was a gorgeous shot. Can't wait to see the 24th century again in HD.
Yeah, that was weird. But an automated driver makes sense. It left at it's designated time. I occasionally missed my bus for elementary school by a few minutes when younger also. And that was with a human driver! They have a schedule to keep and one kid making the whole bus late, just doesn't factor into it. I may have been the one to start this off, but I once again want to iterate that my complaint was that there were no KNOWN TNG Ships included in that lovely panning shot. Not that the DISCOVERY ships were used. (I actually like the closeup of the Tugs)

I'm pretty sure that the Kelvin Enterprise wasn't there originally... And yes, people having been waiting their first decent look to the Picard era end getting recycled Discovery assets instead compounds to the negative reaction.
