List Only! Last Star Trek Episode You Watched

"House of Quark" DS9

I almost skipped this one on my rewatch...as I generally think Ferengi episodes are somewhat annoying, but I'm glad I watched this one. It was pretty charming.

"Conspiracy" TNG: Not mad about the clay motion "special effects"... in fact, the whole final scene sucks, big time! Were they running on a low budget for this one?

Wasn't it the second to last episode of season one? So, I'd say probably. Though I never really I had an issue with the effects.

Personally I think it's just awful and the pacing too. Plus the whole story is just unbelievably stupid. Not to mention the "cliff hanger" in the end!!!

It is an episode I always have liked. I didn't have a problem with the cliffhanger. Space is big, who knows how far away the parasites came from? They could still be out there. Could be a thread for Picard to pick up on in the 25th century or other shows later in the timeline.

Shit. This is going to be a rough patch. "Too Short A Season", "When the Bough Breaks", and "Home Soil". All in a row. This is where I faltered every other time I tried to re-watch TNG.

Wish me luck.

... I don't think I should be sober when I watch these. I'll never make it if I'm in my right mind.

Some of those mid-season one episodes have their own unique charm though. Be open minded, and you'll probably find some little gems in each episode that you'll really like. Sometimes it's just a character moment or two...or a bit of offbeat world building...even a piece of music...that I might find fascinating and strangely endearing.

DS9- The Maquis Part II. Believable frontier politics. DS9's second season was graced with intelligent writing.

DSC "Point of Light" and "Obol for Charon"

Entertaining, but both felt far too fast-paced for the types of stories they were.

Man, these BR disks look beautiful. Say what you want about the pros and cons of Star Trek Discovery, but it is a gorgeous show.

"Too Short A Season"
  • Worf and Yar blasting a hole in the wall. Love it.
  • Young Admiral Jameson looks like he stepped off the set of Miami Vice. Got a kick out of it.
  • Karmis looks like he should be a villain on The A-Team. They should be escaping his goons and Hannibal should love it when a plan comes together.
  • A lot of the musical cues. Very appropriately '80s. Bad-ass.
Still a shitty episode, but there you go. ;)

One of my least-favorite S1 episodes, although I found the ending to be very sad and tragic. I felt bad for Annie...so it did make me feel something, which I value.

And I found young Admiral Jamison's hair objectionable, even when I was a 7th grader.

It's a good thing they got Jamison to the planet when they did. If it took any longer, Picard wouldn't have allowed him on the bridge. :p

EDIT: Speaking of which, "When the Bough Breaks"...

Calculus. I took Pre-Calculus and got an F. But here I am today and doing fine-ish (emphasis on the "ish" but we'll pretend I didn't say that). So, no, kid's dad, he doesn't have to take Calculus!

Other Notables:
  • Riker loves the planet Aldea a little too much. That has to make Troi wonder...
  • Roshella looks sharp!
  • I love the synthesizers. Ron Jones never fails to deliver.
  • Deep Throat from The X-Files is in this episode!
Then all the kids disappear.

Here I am (yup, it's me), wondering "Where am I going?!?!!"

I do like the set design and the color scheme on Aldea. It's like a cross between "By Any Other Name" and "For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky". The Aldeans themselves also look like they could've been on TOS.

Okay. Turning this off for now. I'm half-way through the episode and half-way through this "trilogy".

I'm gonna get there.

Cold Fire - They really dropped the Ball on the Caretaker story. I really wish we had seen Suspiria again.

Maneuvers - The Kazon are not Voyager's most popular alien race, but I love the Kazon Nistrim episodes. For one, I think Cullah and Seska have amazing chemistry, but more than that, this is Chakotay at his very best. I loved the torture scenes here, and him Mocking Cullah. Also, that ending revealing Seska impregnated herself was a hell of a cliffhanger.

The Outrageous Okona - TNG: What a stupid episode through and through. It's like the writers said to themselves: "This episode is not shitty enough, what idiotic little detail can we add to it to make it even shittier!!". Like when Guinan explains to Data what's funny by giving him examples that aren't even a smidgen less unfunny than what Data was saying... Yeah, I am annoyed, indeed!!!

I wish TNG did more episodes about sympathetic Admirals seeking redemption after flagrantly violating the Prime Directive. There's a lot of tension and conflict in this episode.
