I think Tarantino Trek just died.

I didn't pay attention. When I glimpse into the future, it is only to make sure Star Trek is failing exactly as I know it should.

Just once couldn't you use your powers for non-Star Trek related activities?

What a huge loss for the Star Trek fandom (even if a misguided percentage of that fandom thinks it's a win).

We have had nothing but prequel, derivative, alternate-universe BS in Star Trek for a very long time.. I understand why you might have been hesitant to give QT Trek a shot in 1999, but it's 2019.. What did you have to lose? A Fourth JJTrek? An animated series that focuses on two-spirit penguins fighting for equal rights on a dying ice planet currently under siege by spacebears?

I don't really blame QT for dropping out.. He probably read the fan reaction to his involvement, realized he was an f'ing legend and didn't need to do this, and took his ball home.

RIP Pulp Fiction in Space.. It may have not been real Star Trek, but I'd bet the mortgage that it would have been better than anything recent.

What would be the point in that? Other shit don't interest me.
You do realize Tarantino's movie would have been another alternate universe, right?
Okay, that I want to see.

I just watched “Once Upon a Time...” again last night and was thinking how awesome a Star Trek movie QT could make. He’s a frelling genius, and nobody does nostalgia better. It would be glorious!

Please refrain in the future from taking swipes at those who may hold an opinion which differs from your own. If you have a point to make, it should be entirely possible for you to argue it on its own merits without any need to make it personal.

If I think QT's style doesn't quite mesh with Trek, then I do not see it as a huge loss. YMMV and IDIC and all that jazz.
Well, we would have had another Kirk adventure, since QT has stated that Star Trek for him is Kirk and he planned on a TOS era film. Picard might be better now, though, for those not wanting a prequel.
If he is that thin-skinned, especially when he claims to be a fan, then perhaps it is for the best.
    Mileage will vary.

even though QT has (possibly/probably) dropped out (of directing) Paramount might still chose to make his story that was adapted by Mark Smith as ST'5'. just with another director (think True Romance, DuskTillDawn, Natural Born Killers - that were 'Tarantino' in everything but director).

remember Paramount is kind of desperate at the moment and only really have Tom Cruise, Transformers (which isn't so hot now), and Star Trek. so they'll want further Trek movies lined up beyond the Legion dudes economical ST4.. and the prestige of a QT story/exec produced Trek film would at least be a bigger deal than usual even if he isn't directing

Tarantino hasn't written for a film he hasn't directed since 96. There's no reason to think he'd sell a script he wouldn't direct when he hasn't done so in decades and seemingly has no interest in doing so now.

It's still his story, whatever ideas he came up with. Paramount can't suddenly decide to make a movie about it and sideline him.

Yeah, I was afraid of this. Tarantino tends to have the equivalent of attention deficit syndrome, when it comes to wanting to do his projects, and Paramount is to blame for not recognizing this.

Paramount didn't do anything wrong on this one. In fact, on the face of things, they always had an insurance plan, or two.

Well , they'd have to ask him (nicely) if it was still ok to make the movie with another director (with him getting a story/exec producer credit) as happened with True Romance, NBK etc and hopefully hed say 'yeh ok'

Paramount is to blame for someone else's choice?

No way I can take that seriously.

    Disappointing.
So if (big if) Pine and co. get another movie it will likely be just more of what we have seen before. So more of what people didn’t exactly queue around the block for.
    Ho fucking hum.

Well Paramount has entered discussion with Noah Hawley so maybe "medium sized if?" ;)

Paramount Studios is the same studio who waited nearly four years to green-light the sequel to STAR TREK '09, possibly costing both interest from fans and the quality of said sequel. So, while YOU may not take what I wrote seriously, I've long since stopped taking Paramount "seriously", due to its production track record. Hopefully, the Viacom merger will correct this.

Oh, I don't take Paramount seriously. I also find it odd to state that Paramount is somehow responsible for another person's choices. Tarantino is still able to make his own choices, right?

To be fair to Paramount, it was Abrams and Bad Robot who delayed starting on the '09 sequel. Sure, they could have given it to a different group of waiting, but I guess they figured that having the same production group responsible for '09's sucess outweighed the delay.
