I think Tarantino Trek just died.

Quite the contrary, Paramount gave a greenlight to a sequel a month before Trek XI was even released, with the intended release date to be 2012. Then Orci and Lindelof spent an entire year arguing over whether or not to use Khan in the movie, resulting in the movie's release getting postponed to 2013.

Plus, they seem to struggle finding people who are actually able to make these things. If they gave Trek 2 to someone else it could have fallen apart and we'd be delayed even further.

I'm watching pulp fiction for the first time in maybe 15 years, and it makes me hope he won't make his trek film

Why assume all of a director's movies have to be the same? There's absolutely no reason to think Tarantino's Trek film will be anything like Pulp Fiction or any other QT film. He IS allowed to vary his style, you know. ;)

Besides, as has been pointed out before, QT is a huge Trek fan and he knows the rules. I'm excited to see what he can bring to the table, but he knows the basic thrust of the gist of the Trek universe and will not, IMHO, do anything to ruin that.

My speculation is that the Pulp Fiction-ness was story structure rather than style. Pine Kirk and crew, Shatner Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard (if rumours are true) all having their own storylines which intertwined and crossed over as the movie progressed.

I just don't wanna see widespread drug use and overdosing or lots of bad language in a trek film. The occasional Orion can snort volcano vapors, and Tilly can say f-ing cool when it fits, but there are so many essential elements in pulp fiction that would be too odd in trek. trek isn't supposed to be dirty. I could imagine some klingon quoting kahless before he kills people, or two tal shiar agents talking pointless stuff between assassinations, but none of the other things from pulp fiction. and please no 2 min scene of picard dancing mambo, or annoying 1 min alert beeps, or a monolog where nothing happens in the picture for 3 min XD

Racist Lt. Stiles in "Balance of Terror". Racist Kirk in STVI. Racist Maxwell in "The Wounded", O'Brien and others throughout DS9.
Insurrection showed us there's plenty of greed. Tarsus IV showed us there's still hunger (somehow), DS9 showed us there's plenty of poverty throughout the galaxy just not on Earth.

Like many things in life, a lot of the Trek hype doesn't really match the Trek content.

    Tarantino Trek was never alive.

This was another move by the studio to build investor interest and faith in this weakened brand, with minimal chance that the actual project will come to fruition. It was obvious.
