Just as with Revenge of the Sith, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker will have a lot of ground to cover if it purports to be the culmination of not just the sequel trilogy, but all three trilogies. What will happen to Leia and the resistance? What about the rest of the galaxy that's still in shambles? What kind of conclusion will we get for Rey, Finn, Kylo, etc? Characters, we barely got to know. And what about the title itself? Will the Skywalker name have some significance as a replacement for the fallen Jedi order? A new order of Skywalkers perhaps? And what role does the Emperor play in all of this? Hopefully we'll get some answers along with a few surprises.

It all comes down to this… The final installment in the Star Wars Skywalker saga, until the next one. Let the fireworks begin.

Like you, I'm not convinced this is the end of the Skywalker saga. This one goes over $1.5 billion and we'll be getting the sequel sequel trilogy in 2023 or 2024.

I don't. Not even a little bit. The Skywalker saga is modern American mythology, and something that is a proven seller.
I believe them, three trilogies seems like a good place to stop. They're still going to do other stuff not connected to the Skywalker family, so it's not the end of the franchise.

Yep, and Star Trek VI was supposed to be the swan-song of TOS. I'm sure there are lots of other examples of what was supposed to be the end of the road only being a momentary pause while they figure out ways to exploit it for more money.

Nostalgia is big. Folks are now becoming nostalgic for the prequel trilogy and, in time, will be nostalgic for the sequel trilogy. Do you honestly think Disney is going to ignore that potential windfall?

Then there are the folks like me, for who the Skywalker story is "Star Wars", who have very little interest in the property beyond it. The only reason I watch some of the ancillary stuff is because my wife is a fan. I wouldn't have given The Mandolorian a moment of my time if not for her.

Nah, it's the last of the Skywalker saga without a doubt. Disney likes to milk, but is well aware of when enough really is enough. Like with Marvel. We're all still digging more Marvel, but the era we came to love is over. Time for new stuff. And, MCU has already proven, new stuff works. So has Star Wars. Although both Rogue One and Solo got their fair bit of bad press, general opinion seems to be favorable. Mandalorion is doing fine.

Skywalker is dead. All hail Star Wars!!!

And please, don't go all 'serious-fanboy' on this post.... it's a bit tongue in cheek. ;) With some truth in there as well.

Huh?
Widow, Guardians 3, Wanda gets High, Panther 2, Thor, Strange, Peter (Possibly?) It's all more of the same.

This is not the end of the Skywalker name. Not remotely.

Plus a lot of new stuff. It's over, no doubt. Star Wars has proven it's more than just Luke, Han, Leia and Vader.

Has it though? All the other projects still had the overall cover of the Skywalker saga. Rogue One had the appearance of two Skywalkers.

Once its over, people may start to drift away.

Which it was. Name another ST production featuring Shatner, Nimoy, Kelley, Nichols, Doohan, Koenig, and Takei as their TOS characters released after Star Trek VI. I don't see why SW can't do the same.

Yup. Every single visual Star Wars project to date has had a direct link to a Skywalker. And I have very little doubt Mando will work something in sometime next season.
The Ewok movies, Knights of the Old Republic, Solo: A Star Wars Story... there's been plenty of visual SW projects without a Skywalker. I can see The Mandalorian going without one, too, and I don't imagine the Cassian Andor series will have any Skywalkers either.

The Skywalker saga is done.

Really?....
The Ewok movies? These did NOT appeal to the same audience as the others you listed (I know, because the 5 year old I used to babysit in the 80s insisted on watching them every night). Knights of the Old Republic was a game that appeals to a small corner of fandom, and Solo bombed quite spectacularly. That 0 for 3.

Did I say anything about audience appeal? I was merely refuting the point that every visual SW project has a Skywalker. And if we're going by your metric, then I'm 1 for 4, since The Mandalorian doesn't have any Skywalkers.

KOTOR has much bigger appeal than you give it credit for, and Solo did not bomb "spectacularly". It was unsuccessful at the box office, but that has more to do with filming the movie twice, massively inflating the budget. It's not like it's Playmobil: The Movie.

Edit: Ninja'd. Nicely put @Masiral

I would disagree with this, as Solo has seen an increase following (and Disney itself has acknowledged what factors impacted its performance). The Ewok movies were responsible for two of my friends getting in to Star Wars in the first place, and Knights of the Old Republic was a game that spawned a sequel, an MMO, and several comics. I would not underestimate the appeal.

So, maybe 1 out of 3 ;)

Video games are interactive media. Not visual. You play them. You don't watch them.

(I suppose I could have used "cinema," but people often infer that to just mean movies.)

Solo, however, is absolutely a Skywalker Saga Legacy film. He's married to one and has a kid with her. Even if you argue that the film takes place before he ever meets a Skywalker and while he's in love with another woman, the film still includes two other characters from the OT and it ends with him flying off to Tatooine.

And I think "legacy' is a more fitting word. Because, yes, a week from now the Skywalker Saga is done. Finie. Kaput. And, no, I don't actually think there'll be an Episode X any time soon. (Unless IX breaks three billion.) But that doesn't mean Disney won't go on invoking the Skywalker Legacy within future projects any chance it gets.

And I'm not even going dignify Ewok movies with a response.

Also, the Star Trek equivalency is the wrong one. The real analog the Enterprise. Star Trek has never existed without it. Even Voyager had several Enterprise crew members appear - with two flying ships of the same class as former Enterprises. Even still, both Voyager and DS9 aired while the TNG films were running. The Enterprise has remained a constant presence. And even if Picard never sees the Enterprise-F, he's still Picard. And still, even if there are no Enterprises in the 32nd Century, and Georgiou's Section 31 never steps foot on one, and the Lower Decks kids never make it out of their Jefferies Tubes, there are new Kelvin films on the horizon and there's probably going to be some kind of Pike thing. The Enterprise's presence will always be there.

The presence of the Skywalker Legacy will always be there. And even if Mando or Cassian never bump into Luke or Leia or Vader or whatever, the Obi-Wan thing is still on the horizon.

The whole point is, even if this film completely renounces all things Skywalker in some grand symbolic gesture, Disney is never going to completely and permanently cut itself off from the legacy. And anyone who thinks they'd ever be stupid enough to do that is completely kidding themselves.
