GhostBusters 3 is Finally Being Made. (2020 Release)

No way she's a granddaughter. Math doesn't work. She's a teenager meaning she was born in, we'll say 2005, for her to be granddaughter that would mean her parents would've had to be born in the 1980s. Egon didn't have kids so unless were playing a card that said he had a family or illegitimate children during the original movies.... She has to be daughter her fathered late in life. 30 years isn't enough time to span TWO generations.
If Egon had a child in 1990 then the mom could have had a teen pregancy at 15 which would explain why the dad is out the picture. Jason

I'm a fan, and I liked it. :)

"Got back together"? When were they ever together in the movies?
Egon seems annoyed she wanted anything to do with him. He even keeps trying to get her to go away, he claims he collects spores, molds and fungus and when she asked about whether he read he says print is dead.

The mother is Egon’s daughter and her kids are his grandchildren. They trailer made that pretty clear. The mom looks like she could be in her 30s and Egon could have had a child between GB and GB2.
I think she is not related. Trailer implies it was the dad that is Egon's son

It’s entirely possible that this girl is his daughter and he used her in his experiments.

It seems pointless to have the connection to Egon be a son who isn’t in the movie and doesn’t have any connection with the family. If the dad is out of the picture, so why would the mom go to his father’s old home? The movie seems to be going to an emotional connection for the family, so I makes far more sense for it to be Egon’s daughter and her kids since they’re actually in the movie.

Im just saying based on the trailer.. these kids dont know who their grandfather is.. and their father is out of the picture. When Rudd asks anout the the father mentioning the Ghostbusters she says only the mom is in the picture. Much more mystery the kids (and we) don't know on the father's side. And therein lies the reasons the kods never knew about this

As originally written and shot, the Egon / Janine romance subplot was a lot more detailed, although Ramis always disdained it and acceded to Reitman's insistence that the script needed more romance. Then, as the film was being edited, Reitman turned to Ramis in the editing room and said, "You know what, Harold? You're right, this does play like shit."

Yeah, Egon and Janine only became a thing in the cartoon. More so in the sequel cartoon because the original basically used Janine as the team mom.

Every single article about the movie has mentioned the mother being Egon’s daughter.

Needs more Bill Murray.
He’s in the movie.

My working theory is that Egon was married prior to the events of Ghostbusters 1984, and his wife divorced his ass because he was obsessed with working with Ray to find ghosts.

Edit: The reason I'm running with this is that it would make the characters' ages line up a lot better, because Egon is very clearly not married in either GB1 or GB2, and for him to get married and have a kid after 1989 would make his daughter's age really difficult to suss out, to say nothing of the grandchildren.

thought so too.. mainly because the Ecto is pre-refit.

Mainly it's just a hunch. I just don't think that the sequel hit the cultural zeitgeist the way the original did I think they should just like Halloween only used the first original Halloween

I think RGB is one of the most thoughtful cartoons ever, but for the sake of a clean canon, they might ignore that too

It's just on the Ecto-1's appearance; it lacks the modifications (and the GB2 logo) that were seen in GB2. I did a little bit of research and found out that the car in GB2 is referred to as the Ecto-1a. But, this is never stated on screen nor is it ever established that it's an entirely new car.

And this is just a minor issue I have with franchises like this where they only seem to have tunnel vision for the original film and almost-always ignore everything that comes after it.

Yeah, as much as I like the Egon/Janice pairing, I have to admit your theory makes the most sense.

Right, gods forbid someone has dissenting opinion from you.

And I say that as someone who likes the 2016 film.

The Ecto-1 is shown in it's original state at the beginning when Ray and Winston are doing kid's parties. The next time, it's the Ecto-1a. I think the idea is that it is the same car, they just got a lot of money from being in business again and added a bunch of stuff to it. A lot of it is basically just promotion material that was probably Peter's idea. The promotions is the in universe reason for the No Ghost 2 logo. I wouldn't be surprised if once business died down again as implied in the trailer, they slowly took stuff off and left the original equipment which was the actually essential stuff they needed to bust ghosts.

You could probably justify a change in license plate by them becoming more of a government approved business and were able to get a specialized one when before it was just a regular vehicle.

What I wonder is where can they find the necessary engine parts to even get Ecto-1 even driveable. I think I once read their are only like 9 of those old ambulances still around. Those things were already old in 1984 which is how they got it cheap. Jason

Carrie Coon was born in 1981. America's first in-vitro baby was born in 1981. Coincidence? Could Egon have forgotten his contribution to some early experiments by fellow scientists? :)

Which is perfectly normal in certain circumstances. I had a Grandfather who was an RCMP officer, but he never talked very much about that side of his life because he was very private that way. He didn't like talking about it very much, and he never showed us his uniform. It was only after he passed away and that things were found that gave us more details, such as a picture of him in an official Royal Photo from a time he escorted Queen Elizabeth on one of her first trips to Canada with Prince Phillip.

Getting back to this movie, if you look at it from the kids perspective, it's been so long ago to them that they they don't really have any cause to know what their grandfather was involved in, and that's not even counting they don't know who he is
