I'm cool with an African- American Superman. Why not?

If you want to make a black Superman type film then make an Icon or Martian Manhunter film, or you have different Superheroes like Kaldur'ahm (Aqualad/man), John Stewart Green Lantern, Cyborg, Mister Terrific, Vixen,

From Wikipedia:
Schumacher cast Clooney in the role because he felt the actor could provide a lighter interpretation of the character than Michael Keaton (in Batman and Batman Returns) and Kilmer.
So it was Bob Daly's [Chief Executive at Warner Bros at the time] idea to acquire George Clooney. He was an obvious choice because he was a rising star on ER, which he deserved. We had a talk with him and he was like, "Alright, if you do it I'll do it."
There's a direct quote attributed to what I quoted from the wiki article (emphasis mine):Shumacher doesn’t say that in this article. Plus at that stage Clooney’s main film roles had been in the likes of From Dusk Till Dawn and The Peacemaker, not exactly laugh-a-minute stuff.

He not only looks very much like Bruce Wayne in the comic books--which Bob Kane has often commented upon--but I also think that George has brought a real humanity and humor to the piece, an accessibility that I don't think anybody else has been able to offer, and that's his unique contribution.
You do realize that J'onn was white for many, many years?
What's being proposed is a black actor playing Superman, not a black Superman type film. It would be a Superman film.No thank you cast a black Superman and I won't watch it. Grown-up with Christoper Reeve/Dean Cain/Brendan Routh/Henry Cavil and the Superman/Justice League animated series it just wouldn't be Superman to me.

Sorry but I'm tired of all this diversity and woke nonsense in Hollywood.
Martian Manhunter is green and should only be played by a green skinned actor....

After all the only humans on the planet are the melanin challenged ones.....right, eveNo thank you cast a black Superman and I won't watch it. Grown-up with Christoper Reeve/Dean Cain/Brendan Routh/Henry Cavil and the Superman/Justice League animated series it just wouldn't be Superman to me.

That's the one were JEJ and Madge send their kid off into the real world to learn life lessons?I do have to say I missed this looking at LaSalle's work. I haven't seen this in a long time, maybe need a rewatch.
Oh, you thought my mentioning Bass Reeves was an indication that I might think there is no difference between the black and white experience in America?I'm not a believer in pretending there's no difference between experiences for black and white
No, you missed the point. What I'm saying is that for you and others, there seem to be areas of American life in which you cannot conceive of black people participating. No doubt there were and are, some areas of American life that have been cut off from PoC, it's just that there are far fewer of those areas than you are probably aware.folks or that real problems didn't exist in the past because one can always find an outlier.
Yet, here you are indicating as much.Oh, you thought my mentioning Bass Reeves was an indication that I might think there is no difference between the black and white experience in America?![]()
There are reaches, and then there are reaches.,,
Like lynchings? No, you missed the point. What I'm saying is that for you and others, there seem to be areas of American life in which you cannot conceive of black people participating. Good, you found an outlier. I suppose he never faced racism back then or had trouble as a black man. Smooth sailing everywhere. There is a real life precedent for Will Smith playing James West, that precedent is Bass Reeves. But I don't generally blame people for lack of education of American history (assuming you're American). We were all short changed to varying degrees in that area.![]()

No, try to understand this; the reason I mentioned Bass Reeves is because he is a real life example of a black man who succeeded in doing a job you apparently think is unrealistic for a black man because of racism.Good, you found an outlier. I suppose he never faced racism back then or had trouble as a black man. Smooth sailing everywhere.
I think gblews is saying is to deal with racism through example by showing the world through example of how the world should be as oposed to how it is. Basically the Kasidy Yates argument when Sisko had issues about using the Vic Fontaine progam on DS9. Some would call it the subtle aproach. Oviously you can get great art by being more realistic because that freedom is what created the golden age of tv but maybe escapism doesn't always need to go that deep. Especially in this day and age when you got a internet that like 24/7 on neverending social commentary. This modern shows and movies aren't just competing against each other but also a huge back catelog of old movies and shows but social media itself. So unless someone has a really enquie prospective that you can't get from a rerun or 20 minutes on twitter maybe it is okay for shows and movies to sometimes embrace the fun. JasonYet, here you are indicating as much.
Like lynchings?
That mostly doesn't happen today, though. I suppose that Black Lives Matter business is just a lot of whining since there are black millionaires, even Republicans.
