My feeling was something closer to the Kelvin/Training Room from '09. Both of them were sufficiently updated while still looking and feeling a little closer to the TMP-TSFS era bridge....

The orginal five year mission belongs to TOS not the Kelvinverse. It's a whole new universe!
Kirk was promoted to Captain in ST09 (2258), and wanted to apply for a Vice Admiral position in STB (2263) so that silly concept of rapid promotions of inexperienced personnel is canon.
Given how often the Enterprise was destroyed under PineKirk I expect an Enterprise D in 2273 lol
Actually in 2273 the great Kirk should be Galatic starlord of the Federation.

Can you explain me why is so hard for Star Trek 5 and 6 to go in to future in Prime timeline in period after Star Trek Picard. Why?

Bingo, JJ n Kurtzman want their own ST universe. I'd LOVE to see prime time line pu a few years after Nemesis, but....

Like JJ Trek, Love the cast more

Maybe w merger CBS will realize what is out there to tap.

For the same reason TOS movies 5 and 6 didn't jump ahead to the then-new Next Gen era: People want to see the characters.

If you want the future, forget Picard. That's just a prequel to the REAL present of the Trekverse: Discovery season 3, circa 3187.

Well, they created an alternate timeline in ST so they could be free from canon......and then remade Wrath of Khan.

    So yeah, anything is possible.

Because then they wouldn't be Kelvin Trek 5 and 6. They'd be Prime Trek 11 and 12.

No. There are things which can be said about the movie, but a remake of TWoK it's not.

Actually, it was in practice before the Kelvin films in the Prime timeline! Just check out Captain John Harriman of the Enterprise-B! At least Kirk had saved Earth and Captain Pike to get his promotion. Not sure what little Johnny Harriman did

Capt. Harriman did what no other captain was capable of doing at the time.

    ...

    He arrived before Tuesday.

I enjoyed Legion (especially season 1), so I will be interested to see how much of his stamp he puts on Trek 4.

I'm thrilled by this news. I'm also happy it seems we're going in a different direction than the time-travel with Dad storyline with Hemsworth. I'm hoping for something new and different and focused on Trek.

A TV guy leading the way might deliver a better story while helping keep costs down. That's worked before in Trek...

Either way....absolutely thrilled that this iteration of Star Trek is continuing.

Watch both movies. ID is definitely not a remake.

I think that's one the biggest failings about Harriman was that he had to look totally inept and incompetent with Kirk around to serve the story. Kirk had to be the hero, not Harriman. Otherwise, I think in-universe, Starfleet doesn't hand out commands of ships named Enterprise to just anyone, and Harriman likely was a distinguished and very capable captain in his own right...but just not on that day.

According to the novels, Harriman's father was a very highly placed admiral in Starfleet and that's why he was Enterprise captain.

I recommend reading the Lost Era novels with Harriman.

The novels pretty much established that Harriman was definitely worthy to command the Enterprise and would indeed be a great captain. In the Star Trek: Enterprise logs anthology, Harriman admitted he made mistakes & didn't look good during the Enterprise's maiden voyage, but he never looked weak and indecisive again after that.

So the novels fixed a weak plotline (again), they could have Harriman go to save the day but Kirk knock him with a phaser on stun to replace him...Kirk would still be the hero and Harriman not look inept

I believe Harriman gets a mention in the ST'09 commentary (or perhaps it was an interview?), where Kurtzman and Orci talk about not wanting Robau to be a captain deliberately made to look weak in order to make the other captain (George Kirk in this case) strong.
