Just got the comic on comixology. The supernova happens between 2385-2386. The 2387 date from Trek 2009 seems officially dead and likely has been retconned as a stardate rather than a proper Earth year.

Picard has been mobilizing a fleet and working under the Federation with the Romulans for years, literally, using the fleet to evacuate Romulan space (not just Romulus itself but Romulan space planets threatened by supernova). Picard is on the USS Verity as Admiral during this time. Geordi is in Starfleet as a Commander and isn't a private engineer like the old non-canon Countdown comic. Riker and Troi are still mentioned as being on the Titan as of 2385.

Nothing like the old Countdown comic with a last minute notice on the supernova before it happens. It's completely unclear why Nero would blame Spock and the Federation if they were helping the Romulans for that long. There is the issue where Picard refuses to evacuate a colony because the Romulans won't bother with also evacuating the enslaved native species there, but it's not clear this has anything to do with Nero (who made it clear in the 2009 film he's from Romulus itself).

They had an Odyssey class star ship too, same as Star Trek online. I’m wondering if we’re gonna see that pop up on the show.

Rios is the furry guy from Picards renegade crew, as seen in the trailer

Not sure why anyone would make that assumption, especially since Stewart has said that the Enterprise won’t be seen in the show.

Picard has its own thread now. How exciting.
The comic was fine but how do they have a Odyssey Class vessel 20 years early? I know STO isn’t canon but it still seems too soon for that vessel to be around.
They also got the year of the nova wrong. It happened in 2387, not 2386.

Strictly speaking, it's stated as stardate 2387 in Trek 2009. The wiggle room was built in right from the start (unofficial Kelvin stardate rules aside, and the 2387 stardate was from the prime timeline anyway) and showrunner Kurtzman, (who worked on Trek 2009) knows this.

So JJVerse Stardate is the year plus one? That makes them sound even sillier.
Kurtzman can’t even follow his own continuity. :)

The movie is canon, the comic is not so unless the Picard show states the nova didn't happen in 2387 it happened in 2387.

The last time I read a countdown comic it was contradicted by the movie it counted down to (Star Trek '09) and I doubt it'll be different this time. These early tie in media are always based on early drafts and often incomplete information, plans change, things get rewritten and I doubt much thought is given by the tv writes to the comic.

Could be Captain Worf. I guess we'll find out next month when the second installment appears in print.

Any mention of Dr Crusher whereabouts in the comic?

My money is Worf. Even the novel verse has that hinted.
No sign of Crusher in the first issue. Only Picard and La Forge, with references of Riker and Troi on the Titan.

2387 was stated as Stardate. Stardate. Stardate. Not earth date. Stardate

That they matched with earth dates in the kelvin movies otherwise was audience convenience, not an in universe rule.

Thanks. Since Riker and Troi are going to be featured in the series, I have a feeling they will be featured in the comics next installment as part of Picard's great rescue armada. When it went haywire they followed Picard's lead into retirement from Starfleet and decided to have a child.

I'd love to see Worf as Captain of the Enterprise-E. Here's hoping he won't give an order of "prepare for ramming speed" at the first sign of trouble :hugegrin::lol::lol:.

What annoys me most is how pitiful Picard reacts when he gets captured by the Romulans. I mean over the course of TNG, Picard has been captured (and even tortured) several times yet he never complained about the situation and never gave in (there are 4 lights!).

In the comic, Picard is captured for like 5 minutes and starts complaining how stupid he is. From the comic:

    „I am a fool“
    „So trusting“
    „In my own abilities“
„And now years of hard work, years of struggle against such odds, all for nought“

Unless Barclay became his personal coach and counselor, this is not how i remember Picard. He is already psychologically compromised and its only going downhill from there i guess...

Worf was never portrayed as a capable commanding officer, he was usually the dumb agressive one who got told no by Picard or ripped a new one by Sisko. Remember on DS9 when they shoved him onto Martok's ship so that Jadzia could be in command of the Defiant during the occupation arc? DS9 put him in red and had him nominally as he Defiant's CO and then hey had him barely commanding her, making room for the science officer when Sisko worked for Ross. That's how bad he was.

If Picard is in 2399, the stardates should be 76xxx.x, if they're following the system they followed in TNG/DS9/VOY. I don't know why they'd want to change it. TOS and DSC might be my two favorite Star Trek series, but let's be honest here: TNG stardates are much better as a system.

In the 2009 film, the stardate for the main body of the film is 2258.42. Kirk was born at the beginning on 2233.04. So it looks like Stardates in the Kelvin Films are Gregorian Dates plus a decimal. Kirk looks like he's 25, so it works. The reason they would've said Spock's ship was from Stardate 2387 -- I guarantee -- is because they wanted to use the same style of stardates throughout the film to not confuse the Average Joe who thinks of Star Trek as nothing more than "Kirk! Spock! Beam me up Scotty!" and went to see the film with that image in their mind.

With that out of the way, I hope they stick with Hobus happening in 2387. Mainly because TNG premiered in 1987. So sticking with '87 is a nod to Picard's roots, in sense. From a real life point of view: The character was introduced to us in 1987. From an in-universe point of view: His life completely changes in 2387. How is that not perfect?

They switched him to the Command Track, and in-universe, Sisko maybe thought he could mold Worf. That's why he came down so hard on him in general. Then "Change of Heart" happened and Worf blew it. He rescued Jadzia Dax instead of going after the defecting Cardassian. I have two thoughts about that: First, Worf really hampered the war effort. Second, they should've bumped this up to the Season Finale and they should've had this be the way Jazia was killed. It would've been better than something like crazed Pah'Wraith Dukat-Ra.

I'm surprised Worf went back to the Enterprise at all. In-universe, I mean. He was always shot-down. So he either had Stockholm Syndrome or he likes a challenge. Or he has misplaced loyalty because Picard was his Cha-Dich (I know I spelled that wrong) in "Sins of the Father".

In the comic, picards thinking /saying this with no one around for all of one panel. He had a mental blue screen of death after he killed shinzon as i recall, and the episode attached made a big deal of him play acting being more confident and certain than he actually is. Unfortunately these incidents may be getting more frequent in his old age. It happens in real life too

I'm not sure where people are thinking they retconned the date of the Hobus supernova. The comic takes place in 2385. and they state the supernova is presumed to be around a year away. However, that's just a guess. Maybe it took an additional year.

The supernova is retconned as just being a problem for a portion of Romulan space though, not the entire galaxy. Which makes sense, considering supernova travel at the speed of light, and generally speaking it's thought the issues with radiation cease about 200 light years out.
