Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Okay, that's fair. I'd chalk up "more comfy" as being the difference between the 24th Century and the 22nd/23rd. So it still works in broad strokes. Things become more plush looking as the centuries pass.
I agree. I like the ENT/USS KELVIN/DSC look because it feels like ships that are built for rugged missions and hard work. The ENT D never appealed to me, largely because it didn't feel very workable. It felt very casual, for lack of a better word.

I just realized that the cover art for Picard Countdown #1 has been revealed. Looks like he is on Romulus, waiting for the Hobus event to unfold...

Edit, ok got it. Its his call for beaming up..

That was on purpose. 22nd century spacecraft were small and spartan, 23rd century ships were bigger but still more functional than comfy, and by the 24th century, spaceflight had become so routine that ships were made for long missions with families and comfort, like a real home in space.

Discovery’s bridge looks like what I would consider to be closer to a real life starship bridge. I think it’s the best bridge since the TOS Enterprise. The TNG E-D looks like a doctors waiting room. It would be a pain in the ass to keep clean in real life. The carpets would have to be shampooed regularly

The preview for Picard Countdown #1 is available HERE.

The mission to save Romulans occurs in 2386. Admiral Picard's ship is the USS Veritas, with the bridge of a Star Trek Online Odyssey-class. The Picard uniform we have seen is the standard duty uniform for the era, minus the gold trim. Geordi seems to be running Utopia Planitia Shipyards and is building vessels especially for the mission. Geordi has models of the Enterprise-E and -F in his office.

The point I think @Phily B is making is that, there has to be some level of that TNG/DS9/VOY era 'comfort' in the sets... or, at least, that things like LCARS need to be adhered to (and we already know there are LCARS interfaces visible in the trailer), if only to maintain some sense of visual continuity. If it looks too like DSC aesthetically, then it loses that sense of coming 'later', as it were.

I'm not anal about details and I'm not asking for beige walls. But hints of a progression from TNG's aesthetic are not a bad thing, and not a reason not to put a fresh spin on it either ;)

The NX-01 has physical buttons, all kinds of random nick-nacks, uneven paneling, and really isn't my style. The Discovery has all touch screens, has even paneling, and the kicker: two stations in front instead of just one. It's sleeker and much better looking than the NX-01.

Enterprise came out in 2001 (A decade before touchscreens became commonplace).
