It tricked me briefly into thinking it was gonna be okay, but as soon as the nostalgia of going back to '84 wore off, the whole thing just sort of...slouches towards entropy. Jai Courtney is easily the worst thing about it, but in his slight defense, Reese is so badly written in the film that it's difficult to picture anyone actually saving the role. They'd have been better, but maybe still not good. Perhaps they'd at least have had some on-screen chemistry with both Clarkes, unlike Jai. And the whole story hinging on Genisys, this amazing new product that everyone is dying to have...but all it does is link your devices? I'm also boggled by the decision to have Arnie play it for just as many (bad) laughs as in T3 despite a dozen years of ridicule over it. Half-amazed they didn't bring back, "Tokk to da hand."
You mean a teenage boy wouldn't be thrilled to open a birthday gift box and find a mobile app that would consolidate his resume, bank account, health records, credit score, and stock portfolio all in one program?! How dare you, sir!
I stopped watching them after the third one. I did like the first three though, with T2, followed by T1 and then T3, but they were all pretty close to each other.
Because after his scene-stealing performance in the film, all the critics were just raving that "I gotta fever, and the only prescription, is more Henriksen!" T2 Terminator T3 Salvation Genysis
I go back and forth on preferring the original or Judgment Day, and honestly it depends on my mood. The original film is an incredibly tight sci-fi thriller, while Judgment Day is a sprawling action extravaganza with a story of fathers and sons serving as its emotional core. Both are excellent. Terminator 3 is basically a higher-budget remake of Terminator 2 but has its moments. Salvation is one the worst experiences I've ever had in a movie theater. On the drive home, all I could say to my now-ex-wife was, "I'm sorry," over and over and over again. I watched Genisys once on streaming and it was so unbearably awful that it took me three nights to get through it. You could put a gun to my head and I would still refuse to watch it again.
1. The Terminator 2. Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3. Terminator Genisys - It's a pretty enjoyable movie if you turn your brain off. I really like the battle against SkyNet at the beginning and I really like the Harvey Dent "either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" route they went with John Connor. 4. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - Starts off goofy, but I love they actually had the balls to have the movie end with Judgment Day happening. 5. Terminator Salvation - I really wanted to like this movie. I wish this would have been the Future War from the beginning of T2. Christian Bale is good as John Connor, and Anton Yelchin made a good Reese. I've seen it a few times, but it's just so, blah, I can't remember anything about it
Whilst it was very, very bad, I don't believe Mrs Relayer and I came anywhere near divorce over my taking her to see it. I did, thankfully, take Jr. instead when I went to see Genisys. He's kinda stuck with me. I'm now trying to decide which of the two are the franchises Alien 3 " Oh Dear God Why ?" moment. I think they both are...
Oh, the former Mrs. Timby and I didn't separate until almost two years ago. Pretty sure that movie had nothing to do with it. Alien3's Assembly Cut owns bones and is the second-best Alien movie after the original.
I really liked the first two films. They told a complete story and effectively ended the series. Rise of the Machines was nothing more than a Judgement Day remake with a reversed ending, although it did have a few good things in it. The less said about Salvation the better. Genysis started out to be an interesting alternate take on the first movie but then they went and made John Connor a Terminator, effectively gutting the entire point of the series. I will see the new one, but after the disappointments of the last three, I don't hold out much hope that it'll be any good.
