The music was my biggest problem with the episode, at times it got so loud I couldn't make out the dialogue through it. That might be more my fault though, because I don't have a surround sound system or soundbar, so I'm stuck with the speakers on the back of the TV. I have this problem quite often, I figure it's probably because most of the shows and movies are set up for surround sound.

No, it is sometimes even worse with surround sound (which I have). The worst offender is Arrow where the voice dialog mumble really sucks.

Really? I figured it was just that way for me because it had to force all of the audio through the two speakers, instead of the multiple speakers you'd have with a surround sound set up.

Hmm, I didn't even think of Zimmer -- it had more of a general Elfman/Walker flavor to me. Though I guess I see what you mean about the strings and percussion. It's the high, fluttery violin ostinato that stands out for me the most, though, and that's very Blake Neely (cf. the Flash and Legends of Tomorrow themes).

Audio problems like that may be the fault of the audio compression settings your broadcasters use. I haven't noticed any serious problems with dialogue audibility.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
    Don't ask don't tell isn't what happened.

DADT "conceptually" is we're going to close down the witch hunting department who has a hard on for seeing you swing, if you're discreet, while having all the very-very quiet gay sex you want.

So even if they saw you pounding some one of the same gender, they're not allowed to ask if you or your gay lover are gay, and you only get in trouble if you decide to volunteer your orientation, which you are under no obligation to say so.

I'd hope so, but when it comes to DC and embargos, you never know. They will randomly ban characters because of things like movies that they will never make and know they'll never make (which has effected Booster Gold and Blue Beetle especially, if even just some of the stories I've read online are true). They've certainly gotten better about embargoes, but they did ban Arrow from reusing its Suicide Squad, even though it didn't resemble the movie one very much (was anyone going to confuse Arrow's Deadshot for Will Smith?). Also, wasn't Deathstroke banned from Arrow because of that possible Ben Affleck Batman film/random DCEU reasons?

I hope I'm wrong and we'll get at least a few of the more interesting B-list Batman villains on the show, but with DC I can honestly see it go either way.

Pretty much everything in this post is a misinterpretation of fact.

We do not know what the process of character rights access is predicated upon or precisely how it is decided... other than that it is decided on an individual case-by-case basis.

It is therefore factually impossible to speculate about characters who may or may not show up in this series.

    :wtf:

Well, Commander Data, you'll find that discussion on the internet involves a lot of things that we don't have definitive answers to, but can talk about and speculate based on past events (like the people behind Justice League Unlimited talking about the pain in the ass that embargoes were for them, how Arrow definitely has gotten bans, etc).

If you only want to talk about confirmed things with no speculation, I suggest you just read news reports that get confirmed by multiple sources, I guess  Speculating about stuff like potential villains for Batwoman and the possibility of embargo stuff is the very thing that forums like this are all about.

Arrow has had character access rescinded or rejected, yes, but it is a misinterpretation of facts to say that those things were definitively caused by filmic rights taking precedence or there being some all-encompassing prohibition against a character or characters being used in one medium because there were plans for them to be used in a different medium.

We do not know why access to certain characters is restricted or rescinded because we do not know the process by which character rights access is determined.

Saw the season premiere and a big meh from me.

It was not terrible but also not really great. I don't know what it is but Ruby Rose just rubs me the wrong way, however she was great as the mute assassin in John Wick 2.

They kinda went through the check list - establish motivation? Check. Establish support crew (including tech nerd)? Check! Establish season villain? Check! No big surprises there and kinda been there, done that in all other CW shows.

Perhaps she's channeling too much of the showrunners' intent to have an occasionally acidic personality / surly / borderline nasty=strong (it does not).Other than that, she was fine in the part.

So is it revealed that Batwoman is actually related to Jason Todd from Titans? I mean, I know she isn't but they sure do look alike. ;)

I'm glad the majority of you seemed to like it... I found it meh, with a lot of questions...
    Like:

    1. How does a multi-billion dollar company just disappear in three years? Sure, the CEO disappears, but, it's not like everyone just looks at each other and go, "Well, I guess that's it then, I guess I'll go work for Starbucks." The company itself has assets, at the very least, wouldn't someone swoop in and take it over? It's a mystery I don't think they will go into, and I think it was done for aesthetic reasons.

    2. Luke Fox... is someone paying him? Does he just hang out alone inside a building all day and night? Like.... he has no other ambitions other than act as security guard for a seemingly defunct company?

    3. Kate had NO idea that the love of her life had gotten married? Like, she still has feelings for her, the woman works at her company, she comes at the drop of a hat when she goes missing, but, she never bothered to check her Facebook status?

    4. Kate has been training for how many years for that job? At what point was she going to come back and say, "Dad, I've been training?" Like, what was her plan?

    5. Speaking of plans, is this the first time Alice appeared? Because it sure felt like it, and at the same time, no one was like, "Hey, there's a new super villain in town!" And why does Alice want to rule Gotham? Like, why? I get why she wants revenge on Dad, but...

    6. And speaking of super villains, when Batman left, they all left too? Sure, they won't really be able to use the Penguin, but, he always struck me as someone who was in it for power and money rather than a personal fight with Batman, like the Joker.

    7. Are the Crows any good at their job? Like, did they clean up Gotham? Or have they only been able to maintain the status quo? Because, they didn't seem all that great. Sure, there was an inside man for Alice, but...

Maybe some of these questions will be answered, some I suspect not. Some could be answered very quickly in the voice over. "When Batman left, the villains lost their desire for Gotham."

Or, in the case of Wayne Enterprises, they could've lifted something from Snyder's run... I think it was a part of his Year Zero story line, that it was a Kane who was in charge of Wayne Enterprises while Bruce was on his walk about... And this uncle was someone in the pocket of the Riddler. So, I would've done that. Wayne Enterprises is still going on, under the hand of a grand uncle of Kate... and it's not the same Wayne Enterprises of old, it's turned its back on the people of Gotham... but, the Batcave is still under it, etc, etc. It would set up another conflict.

I also sort of wish the fight scenes were different than the usual slug fests than we get lately. They're fine. But, I guess I wish, some how, and I don't have an idea, that Kate fought smarter rather than just as hard. But, it was basically, punch punch punch, kick kick kick. Meh.

I'll probably watch the second episode, but, I can't say I was taken with the pilot. But, I'm glad this character is having her chance on TV.

Jacob sent Kate on her "training world tour", but it wasn't until she came back after Sophie's kidnapping that she came to the erroneous conclusion that he'd been misleading her into believing that said tour had an endgame and that all he was really doing was keepimg her away from him.

A lot of Batman's adversaries are imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, put there by Bruce.

The fight choreography of these shows is pretty 'meh' across the board and has been for quite a while. It's actually pretty remarkable when you look back on the first season of Arrow.

I guess it is a lot harder to escape Arkham than in the comics...

Yeah, every so often, something pops through. And I appreciate the stunt teams and the actors, on a TV production schedule, they get shit done. But, for me, it's after 7 years of Arrow, Flash, Legends, etc, etc... the slug fests are blending together, just the same thing, rinse, repeat. And because they are almost all falling in the same place structurally, it's ... meh.

With some many actors involved the stunt co-ordinates are probably keeping it simply because they can't spend as much time with each actor rehearsing combined with everything in comfortable grove.

And the actors in the follow up series probably aren't up to Amell's level of skill or fitness.

    Agreed.
And I'm sure the budgets for these shows aren't huge, to hire more people.
Maybe once Arrow is done shooting, budgets can shift, but, still...

Ultimately, I just wish there was a different vision for the combat for Kate.

I think Ruby Rose has established in movies that she's an excellent stunt fighter.
