New Picard Trailer

This appears to be a non-holographic screen. Also a political map.

I can see that as an outgrowth of the TNG/DS9/VOY Okudagrams. It branches out from them but still looks like they're of another time, a few decades down the line.

Pretty sure that's the same map that was at NYCC, minus some colour:

I love how Cardassia is just Cardassia. No Cardassian Empire. But the Romulan Star Empire still exists. So this map bears out what I thought: that the Romulans weren't as badly damaged as Star Trek (2009) would've led us to believe, even if they lost their homeworld. If they had enough habitable planets, then the loss would be devastating but still not fatal.

Whereas at the end of DS9, the Dominion were destroying everything Cardassian in their sights.

The Ferengi and Breen don't have borders either, I wouldn't look too much into that.

Not enough star systems to be the same map.

It would have been nice if generic evil Admiral lady were an established character like Nechayev or Janeway. Seven's character arc might be even more dramatic if Janeway was among those who turned her back on her and Picard.
How do you know she's evil?

Ross? Rewatch Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

As Admiral, Kirk abused his position to take over from Decker, and in the process put the Enterprise in danger

Then he got a training crew killed on a personal vendetta, which led to the loss of the USS Grissom, and nearly brought the federation to war with the Klingons. His final act was to risk destroying the timeline and thus the entire Federation. Fortunately that panned our.

Kirk as an Admiral was as corrupt as all of them.

She's probably a leading member of Section 31 and has some massive starship brimming with weapons with some unsubtle name like USS Vengeance or USS Baskin Robbins.

She's crying over the death of Tom Paris. Then someone informs her that it was actually Nicholas Locarno who died, and she immediately gets over it.
As long as it's not Commander A-Koo-Chee-Moy-a Chakotay in a surprise cameo. That slash was just absurdly contrived and unbelievable towards the end of VOY's run.

Maybe these admirals feel that all those years out there dealing with galaxy-altering issues give them some latitude in implementing their own "independent initiatives." I wonder what the office politics are like at Starfleet Command.

Is she supposed to be evil? I didn't get that. Not agreeing with Picard doesn't necessarily equate to "evil."

Fair enough, she might not be evil but she's not being advertised as someone we would go to for help. And this is the franchise that gave us Section 31 so you never know.

Certainly anything is possible, I agree. But, my guess is that Picard is asking for something a little wonky / outside the Starfleet charter, and she's obligated to turn his request down for whatever bigger-picture reason (see also: Admiral Morrow in TSFS).

Just because the admiral is an antagonist to the protagonist doesn't make them evil. Star Trek is also the franchise that gave us Commodore Stone, Admiral Kommack and Captain Stiles, and that's just TOS.

Maybe it's Picard who's the evil (retired) admiral here. Also they're actionizing Trek even more. Seven of Nine's scene in the trailer looked like it came from a first person shooter game.

Reminded me more of Enterprise than any video game I've played recently. In fact, it strikes me as in line with how Star Trek has been for the last 10+ years.
